I thought NYC was bad- but yikes! I thought I found a bargain at the Brookline Marriott but then read several bed bug horror stories about the hotel and less than helpful staff. Plus they wanted $24 to park!

We will have a car. It will be just my 17 year old and I. Any ideas on reasonable hotels?

I hear you.

We're going to Boston in July and we're using Amex points to stay at the Hilton. We were lucky enough to get Yankees/Red Sox tickets through the Sox lottery system so we're going to make a weekend out of it. We get a lot of weekend trips out of our Amex Hilton Honors points - it really helps to make the trips affordable.

The 2 times I've been to Boston in the summer, I've gotten awesome hotel room deals through Priceline. But I didn't have a car (I used public transportation - even to/from the airport) - parking will cost a bunch in Boston & Cambridge

You might be better off staying out in a suburb that is near the T. You could look at the Quincy/Braintree area which would be very close to several Red Line stops (Braintree, Quincy Adams, Quincy Center). The Red Line goes right to Park St Station where you can pick up the Green Line (saw from your other thread, you are looking to be close to the Green Line).

There's a couple of Holiday Inns in Somerville. There's one near the Orange line, which makes it super easy to get into Boston and parking is free. It has a pool, but it's under renovation right now. I don't know if the other Holiday Inn charges for parking, but it is close to the Green line, which also makes it easy to get into town. You won't want to drive into town, parking is super expensive.

Yes green line is where we need to travel from. I was checking out in Newton- remembering that there really wasn't anything there. I solved night one problem- We'll stop on the way up= much cheaper. Night two will be someplace in Boston.

I remember from way back when I was in school that the Orange line was the one to avoid. Has that changed? Is it safer now? I thought I remembered a Holiday inn near Brookline? I found a Courtyard there but it got horrible reviews.

Thanks for all the help! Keep it coming!

$24 is a bargain to park at the hotels. I used to have meetings at many of them and paid that to park for 2 hours! I know most the nightly rate are over $30.

You can also look at hotels in Waltham, just take 95 south from Waltham and you can hop on the T at the Riverside Green Line station.

Is there parking at the riverside green line station? Without a permit? And how tough to get a spot, we would be parking there on a Friday. Thank you.

There are almost 1,000 spaces at the Riverside station. You don't need a permit to park. If there is not space there you can head up the line one station to Woodland Station (also conveniently located right off the highway). There are 600 spaces there. Both locations have a fee to park but it's under $10 unless you are parking overnight.

May I ask where you are going in boston? If it's one of the hospitals many of them comp or significantly discount the parking so it may be worth it to drive in town.

No we are visiting a College- WIT. I don't know why I am being so indecisive about this one. I can book a week long trip to disney no problem. One night in Boston and I am a mess.

We come in from the north, and often park at Alewife Station, the north end of the red line. It's a giant parking garage and very reasonable to park for the day. We've stayed in Woburn and Danvers using Priceline and Travelocity Top Secret Hotels, for under $50 a night. We drove into the city when we stayed in Woburn (we were seeing a show) and parking just for that evening was very expensive. Our Boston trips are usually just for the day, so we drive to Alewife, park, and get an all-day T pass to get around the city.

I take the Orange Line everyday to commute to work and it is fine. Staying on the Green Line might be easier to get to Wentworth though.

Good luck finding a place to stay and enjoy your time in Boston!

:thumbsup2 Good to know!

I found the Omni for a good price and parking - they'll keep the car beyond the $42 overnight for a couple more hours for just $12 more- so that works too. So I think that might be the one. I am stopping in Auburn on the way up. Guessing that puts us about an hour away from WIT. Hope he likes it in person!

In my opinion...green or orange line are equally accessible to Wentworth. Like others have you said, you may have better luck with rates if you stay just outside the city. As others have said, I have had good luck with priceline for Boston. One thing to note the green line is broken into different branches, so if you were staying in Brookline on the green line, you would have to go into the city, then come back out on the E line to Wentworth.

We are walkers, so I was thinking we could just walk down from the Fenway stop ( I think its the c line? Or B?) it seemed to be just a couple blocks. Am I way off?

Try looking up a place called the College Club. I can't remember if oyu have to be a member or not to stay there, but I used to work there on weekends. It's near the Boston Public Garden, in an old brownstone. The rooms aren't luxurious, but they are furnished with antiques, and a continental breakfast is included. I think when I worked there, a single room with a twin bed was $85. It's kinda not a terribly well-known place, but I never knew it to have bed bugs or anything else.

I can't remember what the parking situation was, though...

Since you are going to Wentworth you'd definitely do best being in an area near the D line (the green line actually has 5 different routes and you have to change trains if you get on the wrong route - which can be very time consuming) - The Riverside and Woodland Stations are on the D line.

Good school BTW - my cousin went there and ended up with this amazing internship which turned into a FT permanent position working on some really great projects in his field.

Thank you for sharing that. This is his dream school, he has known what he wants to be for a Long long time.

Easily walkable! Used to do it all the time when I went to NU. Good luck on the college selection process :thumbsup2

Wentworth? Son went there, as did Matt LeBlanc who played Joey on Friends.

We made the Spring school visit a number of years back. We stayed nearby at the Westin on one visit, Sheraton on another, as well as out 90 at a Sheraton and drove in. Pricelined a few times.

It's on Huntington Ave and right on the T line. I liked staying at the Westin and Sheraton location the best, because of the attached shopping, food court and the Back Bay area is very nice.

Parking at Wentworth was really tight then, not sure about now, but we were able to park on the college property for the visit. My son went nine years ago, so I'm sure a lot has changed.

My son also considered Polytech in NYC, but definitely liked Wentworth better.
