I have to admit, I've never priced air fare for anywhere but orlando. Imagine my surprise to see that it will cost more to fly from Providence to Las Vegas!!!

So, does anyone have any budget ideas on how to save on airfare? I'm already signed up with Ding and will price out packages.

I see that the travel sites, such as expedia or obtiz have "name your own price" air fare. I'm just concerned it will take 100 hours to get to our destination.

I'm a little confused why you're surprised it would cost more to fly from Providence to Las Vegas than from Providence to Orlando, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying?

Try Kayak.com - it's not a travel agency, it's a travel search engine. When you find a reasonable fare, click through to the travel provider.

ALWAYS try to buy from the airline directly. Frequently, the rates you see from sites like Expedia, Orbitz, etc, have expired by the time you try to purchase. American is no longer making their prices available on one of the online travel sites, so you're not getting full availability anyway (not saying AA has the best prices).

Consider Boston and Hartford, too.
