Random thought...Am I the only one, or had nobody else heard of a 'buckle' dessert until seeing it on these boards? I think I first saw it mentioned at either CRT or LeCellier, and now it seems to be popping up quite a bit, including at the F&WF? I still don't think I've ever seen it 'real life' though.

Every time I read it in a review it makes me wonder if I am missing something or if Disney is just trying to give people muffins for dessert and they are marketing it as something else!

So have I been living under a tree? Is it a regional thing? Should I wait to see it as the next featured item on the dollar menu at McD's? Tell me please!

I had never heard of a bucket dessert either, but I went over to allrecipes.com and put in the word buckle. I got several hits, so I guess its a real thing

A "buckle" is very similar to a cobbler. I think it really depends on the region of the US and sometimes the ingredients vary a little. Cobbler, buckle, brown betty, crisp, etc. They are all the same type of dessert(and I'll eat them all if you put them in front of me).:)

Yes, I've heard of and baked them all - cobbler, buckle, brown betty, crisp and have you ever heard of a "grunt"? -- It's similar to these also! All yummy! :thumbsup2

My wife makes the best blueberry buckle - and has been making it since we got married 14 years ago today. It is like a cobbler.

Yep, I have heard of them all too, even the grunt, and love them all too! I believe they they all go back to the early american settler days where they had to improvise pie recipes with the ingredients they had on hand.

In fact, years ago when our DDs were little and we bought baby food, they made several flavors of "buckle" desserts: blueberry and apple were a couple.

I've been making blueberry buckle for 10 years. It is more like a cake with a crumb topping with TONS of blueberries...but honestly, before Martha Stewart gave me this recipe, I'd never heard of a buckle either and hardly ever do.

I had a yummy peach buckle at the F&W Fest. I purchased this year's recipe book for the F&W Fest items and there is the recipe for the peach buckle in it.
I will be attempting to make this in the near future.
