Newbie disney cruiser here! Just curious if they have any beer specials besides the refillable mug, like buckets or happy hour? Thanks!

You will receive a discount when you buy a bucket of six, its basically 6 for the price of 5. You can also preorder beer through the DCL website and they'll have a six pack on ice waiting for you in your cabin when you board. That's what I did and then anytime I went to the pool I just got an ice bucket from the bartenders on deck and put a few beers on ice. The other option is you can bring your own beer on board, see rules and regs on the DCL website. The only thing with that though is you're only supposed to consume it in your cabin, but I don't think anyone could tell if you were drinking a 16 Oz. Mich Ultra aluminum bottle, if you brough on board or purchased it on the ship. You can also bring wine on board if you'd like.

isnt it like buy 5 get one free for 29.99?? lol we bought a lot on our last cruise

I was wondering about Happy Hour for beer also. I was involved in the thread on the Drink of the Day and I don't understand why there is 2 for 1 on mixed drinks but not beer. Beer is always the cheaper option in a local bar!

One thing we've learned is that you can share beer buckets with your buddy. Hubby drinks Coors Lite only. I mix it up between Blue Moon or Miller Lite. So what I'm saying is that you can mix and match your buckets. You can even do it with a mix of domestics and imported.

Another thing we learned (and not sure if this is because we find a regular bartender who we stay loyal to), but you do not need to get your bucket all at once. Once we've established a relationship with a bartender, we leave the tab open, and the bartender will tell us when we're on our free beer. If we leave the area, and know we're going to see him again later that day, he will still leave the bar tab open. Again, at this point, we've established a level of trust..

Alternatively, get a beer bucket with lots of ice; you can try to keep it shaded, but when the ice inevitably melts, the bartender will be happy to replenish your ice so your beer stays cold.

One more thing ... on embarkation day, find a bartender and ask him what the beer specials for delivery to your room are. We got 25% off a case of beer, which they delivered to our stateroom and stocked in our fridge. This was especially nice when we sailed out of Barcelona and couldn't find Coors or Miller Lite. We enjoy keeping beer in the room to drink on the verandah, or to take a "walking beer" on our way to dinner. We find that beverage service can be slow in the MDR, and that tides us over plus gives the servers a chance to take care of other tables first. I would like to specify that is one beer we bring in a beer glass from the cabin. And really, since I did purchase the beer from them, I don't really feel guilty about it either. The next rounds we order from our assistant server, and he is properly appreciated.

I'm not sure if they still do the specials on Castaway Cay but we used to get a small cooler filled with 6 beers for the price of 5. If that's in your plans just ask the folks walking the beach when the specials start - they are always very helpful I find.

We were at CC a few weeks ago and were told that DCL has temporarily stopped selling the coolers. Apparently there are plans to start selling a new, improved soft-sided cooler, but the CM we spoke with didn't know exactly when that would start. In the meantime, you can purchase buckets of beer (6 for the price of 5) on CC as well.
