BTL GV LV at 10 months?

Thanks all!

Sorry, I meant 7 months, not sure why I typed 10.

lol - I was going to question why the question about 10 months! Figured it must have been a request vacation type of thing.

Ok - even at 7 months for June I'd think it should be ok. Not quite as certain though as I was of 10 months! ;)

I own at BLT and short a few points. So my plan is to book two 2 bedrooms right at 11 months out. Then if available at 7 months, buy one time use points for Grand Villa.
Does that make sense?

Why not book as many nights in the GV that you can at 11 months and then grab that final night using OTUPs at 7 months?

OTUP are limited to 24, that will not do much. One night in June Lake View GV is 101 or 120 depending if before the 10 of June. or after.

Hmm, that could work.
I guess the only problem would be if GV is not available for the last night. Then we would have to switch rooms.

If I book two 2 bedrooms for the entire trip & GV isn’t available, we will be fine in the two 2 bedrooms.

Thank you. I am less than 24 points short to book entire trip in GV.
Am I correct in I have to wait until 7 month window to buy OTUP?

That's correct, you have to wait.

I think it's always good to be on the safe side even if there seems to be little chance you couldn't get what you want. I'd do the 2-2BR's and change at 7 months if the GV is available. Modify one of the 2BR's to start the GV reservation for the number of nights that 2BR allows and once you've done that then call in and cancel the second 2BR and finish the nights at the GV with those points and the OTUP's.

IF the 2020 points follow the early released, then recalled points, the GV will be 93/119 ( vs. 101/119) thru June 10, then 118/141 (vs. 120/141) after. A few points less than now, so you might make it with your current points. Good luck.

We already have the 2020 point charts so 2021 is their next opportunity to make changes.

You could just borrow points from the next year and book a GV for the entire time at 11 months out. Otherwise, the best strategy is to book as many nights in a GV as you can at 11 months out and then try to add a night at 7 months outusing OTUP. That is best because the GV's are less than a 50/50 chance at 7 months out if seeking multiple consecutive nights in June, but the dedicated lake view 2BRs have a very high chance of being available at 7 months out during Jun. To o date they have always been available at 7 months out in June except right at the end of June when there is some risk they might fill before 7 months out with guests reserving for July 4 time.

Thank you for the info. I am borrowing from the next year and am a few points short for the total reservation. That’s why I was planning to book two 2 bedrooms at 11 months out and then check availability at 7 months out. If a GV is available, then I could buy OTUP. The dates I am looking at are at the end of June, but not into July. I am afraid to book the GV at 11 months out and then at 7 months out not be able to book the last night. We would be fine in the two 2 bedrooms, but a GV would be perfect! Not really sure what to do.....

If end of June, you face some risk, if you book the GV at 11 months out, of both not later being able to get the extra night you want or switching to 2BRs at BLT at 7 months out, although that risk as to the GV could be lowered by making the day you still need one at the beginning of your trip, and ideally a Fri or Sat if one of those is your desired start date (Fri and Sat often last longer than weekdays for the GVs in June). Another option, if you do not mind going to a different resort but still want a GV, is to reserve the BLT GV at 11 months, and then if you cannot get your additional time or switch to two 2BRs, would be to switch to a savanna view GV at Kidani. To date those have been open at 7 months out for all June.

Nevertheless, there is one additional factor to consider that may make you lean towards just getting the two 2BRs at 11 months out. There currently appears to be a real Star Wars effect going on for 2020 at many of the resorts, in that rooms that have historically usually been open at 7 months out from mid-Jan to now mid-Feb are having days disappear before 7 months out, including BLT lake view studios and 2BR lock-offs, BWV pool/garden view studios and 2BRs, BRV studios and 2BR lock-offs, and even AKV Kidani savanna view studios and 2BR lock-offs. mid-Jan to late Sep, DVC's usually low to moderate DVC demand time, has, in the past, most often found those rooms open at 7 months out, so it appears Star Wars may be causing more than usual demand for DVC rooms during 2020, and thus taking the route that guarantees you will have rooms, by reserving two 2BRs at 11 months out, may be the best course.
