Day 1: Mother Nature is working against us.
My dh picks me up at work at 8a.m. and the drive begins. It is only know that we fill the kids in on our trip. I get in the car and turn around to ask "anyone know where we are going". With 3 pair of eyes staring at us we tell them Walt Disney World. At first it is disbelief. Ya right Mom we are going to Disney right now. Then after a few minutes it sinks in and the cheering begins. We hand all 3 a birnbaum book that is filled with Disney dollars hidden in the pages and as the kids begin to find the loot they are ecstatic. But we have a long drive ahead of us. Getting out of Ontario-piece of cake. Through Ohio and Kentucky it is snowing, but nothing that we can't handle. We stop for a late lunch/early dinner and are back on the road. As we head into Tennessee it is about 10 p.m. and my dh turn to drive so we switch and I nap. After awhile I realize that we are not moving. I look up to see that all traffic has come to a dead stop. After about a half an hour a couple of kids pull their bikes off of their rv and ride up to investigate. Turns out that 3 miles up the road is a 9 car pile-up, and ahead of that is a jack-knifed transport truck. Black ice is the cause of 10 accidents in a 25 mile stretch of road. The kids said that we would not be moving for awhile so we turn off the engine and pilot and co-pilot sleep. At 1:15 a.m. cars are starting to move. We just got set back 2 and one half hrs, but on the bright side we could have been one of the 9 in the pile-up. I take over in the wee morning as we head into Georgia. Just when we thought we would be safe snow is following us. We stop for a quick bite then cruise into Florida. Finally dry roads, but wait where did the heat go. We arrive at MOWC by 11 a.m. and upstairs for a shower and change of clothes
