BRP & Rebooking ?

My DH's DF is very ill and is terminal. If the doctor's is correct, he only has a few weeks to live. We don't want to be on vacation if DFIL is still with us at Thanksgiving. Has anyone attempted to re-book BRP in the case of a serious family illness? I am thinking of just going ahead & canceling now rather than waiting until the last minute to cancel. I just don't feel right going to Disney when he is so ill or has recently passed away. Do you think Disney will allow us to transfer our BRP deposit to late Jan or early Feb because of the circumstances or do you think my deposit is just lost? Also our AP's expire on 01/07, can we book now for a date after our AP's expire or do I need to renew our AP's before I re-book? Thanks in advance for your imput.

You can rebook and if the reservation amount goes down there is a $50 fee. If it doesn't change or the rate increases, then there is no fee.

I know when my mom was dx'ed with cancer & had to have surgery immediatly, I was not within my cancelation policy. I called Disney & explained what had happend & they canceled for me without penalty. If you call them & explain, they should understand. I offered to get them proof from the hospital & they said I didn't need it. Good Luck with your ressie and my thoughts are with your family.

I would call ASAP. DH's mom is ill too. I think if you change it before the 45 day mark there is no penalty. On one of our last trips we were doing the land and sea and would have been very pg at the time of boarding. So, we moved our trip and made it just land. No problems. Sorry about your DF.
