I am obsessed with Disney theme parks and I haven't had the cake yet!! :sad2:

I have reservations at Sci Fi and Brown Derby. My boyfriend wants the atmosphere of Sci Fi, and he's "putting up" with Disney for me so I figure we should go there... it will be more fun. But I REALLY want that cake. Can I pop into Brown Derby after our lunch and order a piece to go? Or can I get it somewhere else in MGM?

Thanks!

I had my hopes up too! But really didn't care for it! (so sad)....

I have a pic...will try to post... but I LOVE Grapefruit and NOT a big Sweets eater...so thought I would like it ...but I did not....

Just sayin'....

Hugs,
Mary

I believe you can get it at Starring Rolls :)

I tried this in March and was told I they couldn't do that. But every CM is different, so some might get it for you. But if you absolutely HAVE to have the Grapefruit Cake, the only guarantee is eating at the Brown Derby (Which was great, btw.)

Does the Brown Derby have a bar area where you could order the cake and maybe a drink?

Frankly, getting a piece is not worth the trouble. Years ago, the cake was delicious and we loved it. The cake was baked fresh on-site and the restaurant would even give you the recipe on a derby-shaped card if you asked.

For the last 4 years or so, the cake has been made by an off-site third-party contractor. It's now surrounded by some kind of weird cake covering that no doubt is intended to keep it fresh through the freezing, shipment and thawing that go on with it now. Unfortunately, the weird cake covering tastes terrible. The texture is even worse than the taste.

So upshot -- we don't even bother with it anymore. Brown Derby used to be must for us, mostly so we could have the cake. Now, we haven't even bothered to eat at Brown Derby in recent years.

My advice is stop trying to get a piece of the cake, since you're about 4-5 years too late.

Enjoy SciFi -- we think it's great fun for onion rings, shakes and the movie trailers.

WOW!!!! Was that your boyfriend posting this?:rotfl2:

We were just there this past weekend and were able to get a piece of cake to go without a problem. It was even during lunch when they were really busy. I agree about the weird covering but the rest of the cake is delicious!!!:goodvibes
