So, I have been going over our dining plans for our trip in September and I really don't think we'll be able to make it to the Brown Derby, but I really want to try the Grapefruit Cake...is there any where else I can get it or can I go up to the bar and just order it to go?

I've read a few times that the bakery nearby, Starring Rolls (or something like that), carries, or can get, the grapefruit cake.

They used to sell the cake at Starring Rolls, but that was years ago. I have been checking for it every time I go for the last 5 years. This trip, I think I'm gonna go in and get one.

The Derby has no bar...at least one where you can sit and order anything.

But I've read on earlier threads that it is available SOMEWHERE--.
Anyone?

I have too say I was itching to try the grapefruit cake last year and was really disappointed.:sad2:

I'd really like to try it too - Would love to know if you can get it by ordering at the restaurant or at Starring Rolls?

My DH too. He LOVES desserts of all kinds and he thought the grapefruit cake was awful (although it could have been partially due to the overall experience at BD which was not good to begin with).

I LOVE the grapefruit cake at the HBD. If you get the recipe and make it, it comes out EXACTLY like the restaurant. Just don't use light cream cheese for the frosting. When I want grapefruit cake I just make it. Takes a bit of effort but its worth it, and it doesn't make a huge amount so if no one likes it (and not eveyrone dles, because it is not sweet) then you're not stuck with a lot.

The recipe is available on the internet.

Good luck!

Had the grapefruit cake for the very first time this past March and it was nasty! But to each their own. I'd much rather have chocolate over that bitter grapefruit taste any day!!

I had a few bites of the grapefruit cake 2 weeks ago (too full to eat any more!) and I thought it was wonderful! We loved the Brown Derby, had lunch there twice during our trip, it was that good!

We had a piece at Starring Rolls in March. They do not have it in there display case but they will get you a piece from next door.

Hey Ron,

Thanks for that little piece of info:thumbsup2

I really liked it when we ate there and had no idea you could get it at the bakery...

Do you have to tell them Ron from Michigan sent you...:cool2:?

We have gotten the Grapefruit Cake at Starring Rolls and we have gone into the Brown Derby and ordered the cake to go.

In addition, my DH has made it at home. Yum!

Good to know - thanks for sharing!
