I hope it works out. We did not like sailing out of Miami!

To Port Everglades it's FLL. MIA is an easy 30ish minute Lyft ride and generally has more options for flights I've found.

Probably Ft Lauderdale as it’s close but Miami is an option as well

What would be the closest airport?

FLL, but MIA isn't hard, I've Uber'd from MIA to Fort Lauderdale and it's 30-45 minutes (and easier than transferring from MCO to Canaveral).

Hmmm...MCO to Port Canaveral is ~45 minutes on a straight shot down 528. Minimal traffic.

What didn't you like about it?

I personally like Port Canaveral. It is easy to get to with direct flights from out West. I don't find the drive to the port to be bad. And it allows us add in a day or two at the theme parks if we want.

Uber to/from Fort Lauderdale from MIA is MUCH easier and more economical than trying to do that from MCO.

I love Miami as a port.

My one time out of Port Everglades was on the Celebrity Edge at their specially built terminal on the outer section of the port so we pretty much went straight out to sea. But it felt VERY industrial getting there to embark, and I would not like to be at one of the inner docks as the sail out is just sailing by other ships, empty docks, or industrial ships.

I’m excited for this news. I’d love to get a Disney job working at the port just for the discounts and park benefits.

The people who works at the port usually does all the cruise lines. They don’t work for say Disney or carnival or rccl. One day you might have on a carnival uniform on the following day rccl and the next day Disney. Does Disney give benefits for them people? I have no idea

There are certain positions that are for each cruise line as I have friends that do this for Royal Caribbean. It will especially be true if they have a dedicated terminal.

Is the thought they will move out of Miami, or adding a 3rd to the East coast of FL so they can have more days available? I know the new terminal at PC will help that, but curious if this gives a direction they may be heading for ship 6 and 7?

Probably (A) to diversify their port suppliers and (B) to have the ability for all ships to sail out on a weekend in winter

My understanding is this replaces Miami as it would become a dedicated cruise port vs. renting on shared basis out of Miami. Not that they couldn’t continue to rent the Miami port if so wanted.

I think this is a very exciting opportunity for Disney to build to their own terminal similar to the one in Port Canaveral. Yes, you will fly into FLL which is great for those of you who have JetBlue at your home airport. FLL is much closer to Port Everglades than MIA is to Port of Miami. The other great thing is that the Brightline rail station is very close to the port (again much closer than Miami's is to the port). With Brightline extending their rail line to Disney Springs, it's possible that someday you could board a train at Disney Springs and be at Port Everglades in about 3 hours!
