The best-selling country duo posted a message on its Web site Monday saying they've agreed to "call it a day" after 20 years of making music together.

"This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed ... We owe it all to you, the fans," Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn said in the message. "If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time."

Brooks & Dunn will release a greatest-hits album on Sept. 8 and tour one last time in 2010.

Just saw the other thread and hit their website. This is sooo not what i wanted to hear tonight. I'm off to youtube to drown myself in their videos. I WILL be getting tickets to 1 of those concerts. I don't care how far i have to go:sad2:

Having played a lot of country back in the "Urban Cowboy" era, I'm not surprised. Country music has evolved a lot over the years, and not all for the better. A lot of what I hear on the radio these days just doesn't seem country and I fear some of the more legit (and more talented) country artists are being nudged aside. The country music industry has always embraced the pioneers and long-standing stars, but I think a significant portion of the fan base may have lost some of that loyalty. I suppose it's a generational thing, but it's still sad. 25-30 years ago we were playing a mix of old country, new country, oldies rock & roll and pop with a lot of success. Too much of what I hear today is more along the line of hard rock. Still, there are some really good young country performers out there. Hopefully, they will hang in there.

I like the combination of rock and country (my concern is the influx of pop in country) but I certainly don't want to see the more traditional performers disappear. I wondered though when Sugarland seemed to unseat Brooks & Dunn at the top. It's too bad, these guys are a class act.

:love:I love Brooks and Dunn, but I'm not surprised.

While I"m a disappointed, I would rather see them bow out gracefully, then be like Steven Tyler and his gang, with the broken hips, falling off stage, broken shoulders etc.

The guys just played a show close to us (for the Soldiers at Fort Knox) and they did a great job. They've had at least 1 top-5 single each of the last 8 years, so they're still getting it done. Very sad to hear this.

OTOH, there's something to be said for leaving on one's own terms. If that's what's happening here, then there's some dignity in that and I say good for them.

I think it's funny how they're "done" but really not for another year or so. Not surprised though, I mean, by the time they finish their tour next year, it's about the age most people start to think about retirement.

And personally, I listen to country because it's much better than other stuff that's out there. So it might not be the country of 'yore, but it's still 20x better than the "pop" and "hip-hop" of today.

I don't listen to country too much anymore since it's become too "pop" but I might just have to catch this concert next year. Brooks and Dunn are great - I have fond memories of singing their songs to my little boy while he sat in his high chair. He would giggle and giggle, such a cutie. He is a 16 year old punk rock fan now and I just LOVE to tell him that story .

I've always liked them a lot, but their songs haven't been as good lately. IMO, they've passed their music prime. Just as well that they start relaxing and enjoying life!

Just so long as Toby Keith stays around for a few more years...

That's a shock!!

I've always enjoyed their music.. :(

I have to agree with this. All their recent songs sound exactly alike.
