Bronchiolitis ... Anyone?

My baby has Brochiolitis. We went to the ped this morning and she heard it right away in his chest. She said at this time of year most of the cases of Brochiolitis is due to RSV. She said DS's sounded fairly minor.

He just had a crying, coughing attack and started choking. Like really choking. I have never been so scared in my life. We flipped him over and hit him in the shoulder blades a few times and he was ok. He calmed down and now we put him to bed but I am so scared he is going to choke in his sleep. I know, logically, that won't happen because I'll hear him and get to him fast enough. Last night we had to sleep in the swing a little bit but he's really too big for it and seems ok down in his crib right now.

I have a Vaporizor in his room right now. That's what the ped told me to do. We are going back on Friday for her to check him since we had a pre-op appointment anyway. She said to call if he has a fever anytime after Tuesday night. He only had a small one on Saturday night.

Anything else I can do?? I was so scared when he was crying and coughing, I was ready to bring him to the ER. Last night he had a spell like that as well but not as strong.

We cancelled his surgery for next week. DH also went to the Dr. today. He has bronchitis. I can't figure out who gave it to whom. I am just suffering from a bad cold, hopefully it doesn't go further.

I'm sorry thay your baby and husband are sick. They may have caught it anywhere from anyone-who knows. You need to make sure that you're getting enough rest. I hope your little one sleeps well tonight and that they're both frrling better soon.

I think this sickness is going around. I have been to see the doctor twice so far and have another appointment on Wednesday. I was diagnosed with bronchitis, but I don't know.

I hope your baby is better soon. I know it's scary when they are so young.

One thing you can do that might help is put the head of his crib on a couple of books/bricks to elevate it a little. I know it helps me not to be laying flat. Also if you keep him cool rather than bundled up where he gets too hot.

My DGS (5 mos) was diagnosed a month ago and has been on a nebulizer ...

he also had a major choking event

Slight rattle in his chest but no more choking events!

A friend has raised the issue that his babysitter keeps the kids in a basement...

I'm afraid it will be a chronic problem for this winter.

Oh no...I remember the other day about him being sick...I thought it was simply a cold, or an ear..I do remember having my kids in the swing for the same reasons, and simply sleeping on the couch beside it...

I hope he gets better soon, and your DH as well as yourself..

I have been putting it off for 2 days, and have an appointment at 8Am...I think I have the same..

DS is 10 now, and he had a TOUGH first winter. We actually put his full size car seat, in his crib, and had him sleep like that a couple of nights. Sitting upright, really seemed to help him.

It's so hard when they're so little, but it will be OK

My daughter used to get this and RSV and all that all the time until she started seeing a Pulmnologist. She now is on Pulmicort(sp) and on Xopenex when she gets congested. She would end up in the hospital on oxygen, it would get so bad.

Keep a watchful eye out....pt was always good which was like a light popping on the back and chest like respiratory does...but always consult with your child's pediatrition first.

Hoping he gets better fast, it can be very scary. And RSV in an adult would act like a cold, it would be very mild for us.

DS3 and I got back from the peds office with the same diagnosis. His is bronchitous/borderline pneumonia. He's been coughing for a week, I took him in on Saturday and was told "just a virus, call if there are any changes". This morning woke up w/a spiked fever and vomiting. So back we go........3 hours, blood work, chest x-ray, and 2 shots later---we're home.

They did put him on antibiotics. Has a sinus infection too.

He's sleeping w/me tonight, got the humidifier going too.

Just remember if he gets a big coughing fit to wrap him up in a blanket and take him outside for awhile. Breathing that cool night air always helps. I was doing that last night..........

My DD has bronchitis a few times at around a year old (we had a VERY bad/sick winter). I actually slept on the floor of her room in a sleeping bag. I don't know why I thought that was better than being in our room with the monitor pressed to my ear but at the time it was what I needed to do. Also, DD seemed to calm down and sleep better knowing I was there.

I hope he's better really soon.

My ever so smart DH decided when are DD(10)now was very small and in her crib to make a pair of 2x4 squares and put them under the head end of her bed. Her bed didn't have wheels so to be sure she couldn't rock off the blocks, he notched them. It worked like a charm and so we didn't have to do the car seat thing. It helped with all the little sicky's they get.

I feel for you.

Our ds13 had it for the first 4 years of his life. Yep...the first four years and let me tell you, it seemed like it was never going to end. I was running him to the ped. every two weeks. Sometimes his cough would get so bad that we would take him into the bathroom and run the hot water so the steam could build up and that helped him a lot.

I hope your DGS stays healthy this winter. I would also be concerned about having the kids in the basement. I guess that depends on the type of basement.

I am glad that you are going to the dr. DH is falling apart, didn't sleep last night and this morning I am worse than I was yesterday. I just hope I don't get as bad as them.

Our Ped. showed us how to do that yesterday. I did that last night for about 5 minutes on each side. Alternating the popping with rubbing. I think it helped him, he definetly sounds less congested this AM. We also had the humidifier with Vapor Mist going in his room. He slept a lot better.

It's so scary when our babies are sick. This is the first time he's actually been sick and it tears my heart out. I slept in our room last night, DH was on the couch and DS was in his room. I think that because DS is sleeping so lightly right now it's better that I am not in there. He got much more sleep last night than he has in a few nights.

Thanks everyone. He seems to be coughing more but that's productive I think. We have the humidifier working in his room. I am going to work on getting more nutrients in him today rather than just pedialyte, but will of course keep working on that.

DH is a mess now. He cracked a tooth on Saturday night as well and the right side of his face is a little swollen and he feels like he was punched in the jaw. Poor guy, he couldn't sleep at all last night because he just couldn't stop coughing. The dr. gave him Robitussin with Codiene but it did NOTHING ... When he woke up this AM his right hand was swollen. I don't know what is happening to my family. I think he is going to call the Dentist this AM.

Here's hoping I don't get worse ...
