My sister's boyfriend just broke his hand, and we leave for WDW in 6 days. My question is this: Will Disney restrict him from certain rides because his hand is in a hard cast?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Disney will not tell you that you cannot go on a ride. It is up to you to decide whether or not something is too difficult for you to ride. I was there in a short leg cast and not too mobile but I was never told that I was not allowed to ride any ride. There were some that I knew that I could not get in or out of the vehicle but with a broken hand, there will be no issues.

Not sure if he already bought one, but a good investment ($20) is the cast cover that is basically a plastic covering for the cast, not only for showering but you can throw it in a bookbag for freak rainstorms and water rides

Hi,

I broke a bone in my left foot a week or so before our 1997 trip and what you do or do not ride is up to you. I would just read all of the warning signs and then take it from there. I rode many things but did not do anything that I thought I would not be able to kept control of my foot and that it might hit something. Go and enjoy.

He might want to watch rides like Rockn RC where the restraint comes over your head (in a U) and there are handles on the restraint to hold on to - up near your neck (hope I explained that well enough). I held onto those handles REAL hard on that ride - not sure I'd want to go in it if I couldn't...;) Also, are there any rides that he'd automatically brace himself using his hands? Don't think there are many "problem" rides, but those are a few of the things I'd consider...

Have fun!

So long as his other hand and arm are strong enough to hold on to things...

If you or he wraps paper or gauze over the end of the cast where his fingers stick out so he can't grab anything with that hand, that would be a good test of what he can versus should not do. He could ask a cast member at each ride for a recommendation.

An umbrella bag from the grocery store is cheaper and works as well. My son discovered that when he broke his arm in May and again in August. He uses a scrunchie to hold it on and keep it tight on his arm.

A bag from the morning newspaper might work as well (use the one from the Sunday paper since it's larger).
