With all the problems at home and worries about making this trip great I now have a new one.

My son has broken his foot less than 2 weeks before we leave:eek:

Fortunately its not a serious break and will require at the most a slip on walking cast. We still have to see the orthopedist next week but his regular Dr said it would not require a plaster cast and maybe no cast at all (keeping my fingers crossed). Hopefully this will not limit what we can do at the parks.

I would appreciate any advice from anyone out there who has had any experience with this at the parks.

(and a little pixie dust couldn't hurt also)

Thanks,

John

Hi,
Sorry to hear about his accident. My stepmother had a similar occurrance a few years ago before a visit and opted for the wheelchair while at MK. This kept her off the leg, but as an added bonus got the whole group around a bunch of lines and gave them front row seats in the wheelchair area for shows and some rides. My brother and friends were along for the trip and loved it, joking with her that one of them would "take the fall" before the next trip.

Even with no cast or just a walking cast, make sure he takes a few rests during the day. Not that you have to go back to your hotel, but find a shady spot & relax.

He should be fine, and a wheelchair will make it even better for him.

Four days before we were to leave for our vacation in June, my 16 yo dd fell from a treehouse  and ruptured four tendons in her foot. Because of the heat, her doctor said she would be better off in an ace wrap than a cast, but to make sure we got her a wheelchair for the parks. We got a free wheelchair upon check in at CBR and used it for the entire trip. Much easier than trying to get her to the parks and then renting one there, plus there was no charge for the resort chair.

I can't say there were no problems and that everything went on as normal, but it could have been worse. DD hated feeling out of control because she had to depend on someone else pushing her. She also hated that in crowds, people seemed to feel free to touch her chair or to allow their children to lean on it. She also said that there were times when all she could see was butts!

Not the best vacation ever, but it was still WDW and that makes up for a lot!

I would check with your Dr. for info. However I'd definitely rent a W/C for MK and Epcot. There's a lot of ground to cover when seeing the "world":earsboy:

Good News!!!

The orthopedist said my son only broke a small bone leading to the small toe. He will only need to were a removalbe splint on his ankle to prevent his foot from twisting. Its watter proof and he will be able to walk with no problem. Matthew said his foot feels better each day and is getting around just fine!

Thanks for all the advice.

That is good to hear that he won't have to have a cast.
But that just seems to be the way things always work. One week before our trip, my 5 year old falls from the Monkey Bars at a Baseball game. She ended up with 3 pins in her arm and a heavy cast for our trip (which was just last week - had a great time) and she did fine.

What a wonderful trip.
