I broke my foot and have just been put into a walking boot that might be on until 8/1 which is 5 days before we leave.:headache: I'm extremely nervous that I won't be able to walk as much as I want to. My doctor has assured me I'll be fine but this is Disney we're talking about. Not a mere walking around the mall! I thought about renting an ECV but I have 2 young children who will be in strollers so my poor hubby can't push 2 strollers! Does anyone have any smart suggestions or ideas? I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thanks!:thumbsup2

The only thing I can think of is you in a wheelchair or ECV and using a double-stroller for the children.

I broke my foot on April 30th and had to wear the boot until right after Memorial Day. This is probably not what you want to hear, but chances are you will not be able to walk Disney. I still have to becareful what shoes I wear when a lot of walking is required. My orthopedic doctor recommended hiking boots, but I just couldn't bring myself to wear them. I would suggest a wheelchair or and ECV at least part of the time. Also invest in a good pair of sturdy, lace up walking shoes. No sandels or anything else along those lines. If you are going to be spending time at the water parks invest in some decent sport sandels, I have a nice pair of Columbia's that I paid about $30 for last year, and they help when we go to Cedar Point's water park.

Also make sure you keep taking OTC pain meds during the day, and if you have something stronger pack it just in case or for at night.

By the way I broke my 5th metatarsile sp? just below the toe. I go back on Tues. for what I hope will be my final check-up, but like I mentioned earlier, I still have pain if I do a lot of walking, and what I do is not day at Disney.

On January 8th, I broke and sprained (class 3) my left foot. I wore one of those velcro boot things until the middle of February. On March 3rd, I went on an Eastern Carribean cruise. We did do alot of walking, but not nearly as much as you'd do at the parks. I did pretty good, but my foot did swell up some and hurt. I think I'd be prepared to get an ECV and have DH push the kids in a double stroller.

Thanks everyone for the advice and sorry to hear you all broke your foot too! :sad2: I actually twisted my ankle and continued to work out and got a stress fracture but it's taking a lot longer to heal than I anticipated. I'm so hoping I don't have to get an ECV b/c that's an added expensive we can't have but I'll do what I have to do. I'm hoping a good pair of walking/running shoes and lots of OTC drugs will help. Thanks again for the advice!

If you will be keeping the boot, I would take it with you. My doctor recommended that I take it with me at times I knew I would be doing a lot of walking as it provided the best support. I know it is hot and would be very uncomfortable, but it might prevent you from needing the ECV/wheelchair.

I'm recovering from ankle surgery and was told this morning that I can start to do 4 laps around our High School track for a total of 1 mile. At this rate, I'm pretty sure I will need an ECV for our upcoming trip. I have a boot and a brace to choose from but can only wear the splint for 2-3 hours. If I'll be comfortable and not all swollen, I will ride!!:thumbsup2
