We went hiking yesterday and we were on this trail. DS 6 likes to run ahead, which I don't mind as long as I can see him.
Well, anyway, he gets to this bridge and runs across and is waiting for us on the other side. We catch up to him, and start across the bridge. About 3/4 of the way across we notice that the timbers across the bridge are all split and cracked down the middle. I went to step on one to go get him and it started to crack more and it wasn't going to support my weight. This bridge is about 30 feet above a shallow, fast moving creek. DS starts to cry.
We weren't sure if we should leave him there and have DH go for help, or to try to get him to come back to us.
We had him walk close to the edge back to us while holding the side and holding a rope wrapped around him. It supported his 40 pounds easily.
I am just glad it wasn't DH or I that was running across the bridge, not looking, or it would have broken and we would have fallen in.
It was pretty scary!
