Anyone know anywhere you can buy them a little more reasonably priced but reliable? I have been eyeing tickets for Billy Elliott and they are $$$$$:scared1:

That is a really popular show...Don't think you will get discount tickets..might want to check it out on January when things slow down a bit.

website is: www.broadwaybox.com
lots of information on here.

some shows never get discounted.

another idea is to go to the tkts booth in times square in nyc. they offer discounted tickets for shows on that particular day.. You will have to pay cash and no guarantee what show will come up...lately I have found that it is only 30% discount.. for me not a really good bargain.

other choice is to show up at theater 4-5 hours before show... they will give people a shot at seeing show at discounted rate.. however..you will not know that until 30-40 minutes prior to show. and if you are with a big group most likely you will not get in.

My advice is if you really want to see the show either pay full price or wait a year or two until it is discounted.

Lion King is in production for 10 years and other than the initial preview discount rate I have rarely seen the price drop

Another site that offers discounts is playbill.com

You won't be able to find Billy Elliot discounts though. Most shows you can get discounts, but BE, Wicked, Lion King, and Jersey Boys are the show that never offer discounts.

Depending on how many people you have/if you live in or near the city, you can try to get lottery tickets or rush tickets. With the lottery, you go to the theatre 2.5 hours before curtain and enter your name into a lottery system to win $26ish tickets. 2 hours before curtain, they pull names. You can win 1 or 2 tickets. Where the tickets are depends on the show. Wicked, West Side Story, and In the Heights offer front-row seats, Hair has the box seats for lotto.
Some shows are easier to win, some are not. I won the In the Heights lotto the second time I played, but it took roughly 10ish times till I won the Wicked one. and I played WSS like 5 times and never won.

Also, there is rush tickets too. You have to check with the show, as some are general rush, and some are student rush (meaning only those with student IDs can get tickets). You go to the theatre around the time the box office opens (generally an hourish beforehand is good), and you get $25ish tickets randomly around the theatre. With rushing, they give out a certain number of tickets, so as long as you are within that number in line, you are guarenteed a ticket.

There is the TKTS booth, but it's still very expensive. 30-40% off of $120 is still waaaay too much for me.

i have playbill.com they offer discounts but i dnt know if i have ever seen BE. also check with your employer, if you have plum benefits you can get discounted tickets, many employers have it and you may not know it.

The Times Square TKTS booth now accepts credit cards. Don't know if there is an extra fee for using them.

I agree with the others - BE, JB, W - not discounted. I would LOVE to take my dd8 to see it!

My DD gets plum benefits..not BE tho
Tkts are really pricey..she is suggesting Avenue Q and After Miss Julie with Sienna Miller..so we may see those and save BE for another time..IF the tkts drop a little!

Thanks for the help all!
:thumbsup2
