Hi everyone! Need some help--never been to a broadway play before, and I am taking my best friend for her christmas present. What seats are the best? Is it better to be up on the balcony where you can see more, or up close and personal? any thoughts?
Thank you!

Oh, price isnt an issue for this present either :)

I think on the floor, close to the stage in the middle is the best..! Balcony is good if your close to the edge but my favorite is front and center aisle down close. You feel very much part of the action on stage with less distractions.
Especially for Lion King the floor is best b/c a lot of the cast come down the aisles.

Thanks :) I found some tickets that are 4 rows from the stage in the Majestic Theater, right SMACK dab in the two middle seats...do you think this is too close though? we might go home with a cramp in our neck..HAHAHAHAH

I believe we were that close for Les Mis and I don't remember the neck think being a problem. We were on the 8th row for Sound of Music and it was great also.

P.S. I do not sit way up front in movies b/c of the neck cramp.

Hahaha
Awesome, well then I guess I cant beat this! I try to avoid the front seat in movies for the same reason..hopefully this is okay..i dont see them selling BAD tickets for a broadway show..so that the front seats are IN the stage practically...but, hahaha, gotta try it to find out for sure :) Thank you so much for your help :)

If I were going to see Phantom of the Opera again, those are the seats I would pick. no, you will NOT get a cramp in your neck, but you might get a surprise towards the end of Act I. (and those who know what I'm talking about, please don't spoil it!)

When I saw Phantom, I was about 6 rows back, center section. Great seats! BR is correct-you will get a surprise! Enjoy the show-it's wonderful.

Wow, how awesome!! That is great info, im so glad that you think there is no neck strain required..i got 4th row back, perfectly centered--my friend is going to LOVE it..i can not wait to see the look on his face when I take him there...how cool. Thank you guys so much!! I love the DIS..

We saw Lion King and Beauty and the Beast (Lion King is 10x better) and Rent recently (I saw Phantom in Seattle and in DC so can't really help you on the exact seats on Broadway), anyway...first off balcony is called Mezanine seating, secondly I prefer mezannine...if you get the first few rows. Reason being these shows (including Phantom) have things which occur in the audience (floor level near the orchestra) to some extent and if you are in the first few rows you don't see them as well in my opinon, but you won't miss them either. Anyway here's my fyi, if you are willing to risk not pre-purchasing your tickets walk up to the ticket booth the morning of the show you want to see and ask for cancellation tickets. Everytime we've done this we've gotten front row center mezanine tickets (i.e., unsold house tickets, these are the seats they save for the actors to give to their family, friends, or that they sell to the bigwigs and if they aren't sold they realease them the day of, they are the best seats in the house), we get them for the same price as any other mezanine seat but don't pay ticketmaster charges. You can do this for any unsold tickets, but we figure why not buy the best. Now the larger the group the harder it will be to sit together of course, but we've sat next to familes of 4 or in front of who've bought from the cancellation line as well. Of course you can't buy tickets for shows that are super popular right now like The Producers unless you are there really early and stand in line for several hours, we were 4 people short of getting those tickets, but we just walked over to the Lion King, and Bingo! so if you aren't dead set on one show, its the way to go. We'll never pre-buy tickets again.

That's what I was thinking about! :smooth:

Phantom is my favorite play. I have seen it three times, the first time in NY with the original cast. It is spectacular. Center floor seats are wonderful. There are set arrangements that look much better from there. I sat in the balcony once (in Boston) and didn't like the view of the staging.

Oh boy! I wish I were going with you!! I've seen it 5 times already (first time, Phantom was played by Michael Crawford ~ and THAT was the best one) but I'd see it again & again. You have some awesome seats & I just wish I could be there with you....especially for the part at the end of Act I!!!

Who will be playing the Phantom? Christine?

Have a great time & please come back & tell us your reviews!

Oh wow, you all have me so excited now!! I cant wait!! We arent going until the 20th of December..perfect around Christmas time. I will definetely let you all know how it goes, but it wont be for a few more months! HAHAH!! It says that the stars of the show are: Hugh Panaro, Lisa Vroman and John Cudia. I would have LOVED to have seen Michael Crawford perform, wow! how cool is that.

I'm one for front and center. And that's where we were when we saw Cats. FIRST ROW! ;) My sister got the tickets through her company. I want to work for a company like that!

Phantom was fabulous! We saw it several years back in West Palm Beach.
