Is there some sort of secret little site that divulges whether a headline star for a particular show is going to call in an understudy? Of course if they are legitimately ill or if there is another emergency there's nothing you can do but I wonder if there's any way to know if a performer will be on vacation or otherwise off on a particular night?

Wednesday matinees or Tuesday nights are a common "off" day for big stars. It's very hard to figure for the most part. If the star of the show has their name above the title, you can ask for a refund if the star is not in that performance.

When I was going to take my daughter to see Wicked, I wanted to make sure both Indina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith were going to be in the show that night. So I went to both of their websites and made sure they weren't going to be on vacation and also went on www.musicalschwartz.com to make sure they were on for that show. Of course you can't guess when a star will be sick, but I have found that wednesday matinees and sometimes saturday matinees the lead will be off and the understudy will go on. I would check out the persons website you want to see and make sure they don't have a vacation planned for that week, and like artvandelay said, you can always ask for a refund if they don't appear at the performance you attend.

Thanks! I did find some info from the website of one of the other performers in the show and feel pretty confident that my headliner will be there!

Now-what with the strike- I'm also hearing rumors about cancellations and better chances for lottery or the discount tix. Just two days out and the box office is telling me that front mezz, center, ROW A is available!

Which in turn makes me suspicious again that one of the big names will be out...hmmmm....

If you're in town & haven't gotten the tickets yet, you can go ask at the box office. The house manager usually knows if they scheduled ahead to be off. They have to stuff all those programs ahead of time with the little "Substituting for tonight's perfomance" inserts.

Just be very blunt with them & ask if they know if your star is performing.

When I saw Mamma Mia on Broadway last year, the understudy played the daughter and did an wonderful job.

So do any of you know about getting tickets for the Tonys? I am going to be in NYC during that time. The website says they go on sale during the nomination announcements. How much do they normally cost? What is my chance of getting 1st mezz? Should you still go in black tie for mezz seats?
