I have the 2004 version. Can anyone tell me, honestly, whether much has changed in the following 2 versions? Don't know whether to buy it or not.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend an alternative planning book that covers WDW and Universal, as well as other attractions in the locality. I already have the UOG.

Feeling the need for some reading about WDW etc. and have read both books cover to cover several hundred times :)

Hi Joh,

I found there were quite a few changes from 04 to 05 in the Brit's Guide and again more changes in 06, so I reckon you will find it improved over your 2004 one. I would say definitely enough differences to justify a purchase.

The "spirit" is the same but there are extended sections & coverage and many more pages (it seems!). Hopefully Simon will confirm :teeth:

As to Universal I have been sadly disappointed by the guidebooks here. I love my UOG to WDW but found the Universal version really disappointing. I have recently accquired Kelly Monaghan's Universal Orlando 2006 book and this is the best by far of the dedicated UO guides I have got. There is a lot of information, the layout is clear and there is tons of descriptions of the shops, resorts and food (the bits I like as much as the rides :rotfl: )

Would be interested to see if anyone else has uncovered good Universal books though.

I got my Brits Guide for xmas pressie (would've been stroppy if I hadn't been given it!!! :rolleyes1) and already I have learnt more things than were in the last one I have (2003).

It's just under £10 from Amazon and sometimes they sell 2nd hand ones don't they? prob won't have many 2nd hand ones yet though. So IMHO I'd say buy it.

Kelly Monaghan's Universal guide is I think the best one going, certainly I think of the one's I have seen and read it is anyway.

As regards Simon's book there are always new shopping, restaurants reviews added as well as much more updated information on the parks at Disney and Universal, I think if you have a copy that is a couple of years old it is well worth buying the updated version - I got mine for £8.99 from www.play.com with free P&P.

Got the 2006 guide for Christmas as well to replace older 2nd hand copy.
You will not be disappointed in it :)

I like the Brits Guide as well, it is good as it gives a lot of info about the area. For Disney I like the Passporter, I have not seen the Kelly Monaghan's Universal guide , but have just ordered one as I need a good Universal guide.

I've read just about every guide out there for WDW. Of those I've read, the only ones i would recommend are the Brit's Guide and the Unofficial Guide.
i really don't like the Passporter at all.

As for new editions, the Unofficial Guide doesn't seem to change all that much from year to year, so a one year old version is probably good enough. On the other hand, I do feel a new edition of the Brit's Guide is worth it. I've found lots of new information that wasn't in my old one.

As well as 'The Brit's Guide', I have 'Beyond Disney' The Unofficial Guide to Universal, Sea World & the best of Central Florida' by Bob Sehlinger & Chris Mohoney, which is quite good. :thumbsup2
