I just read this week's People mag. with Miss Britney as cover girl. It is an interesting article that basically focuses on her hiatus and other events of importance: break-up with Justin T., parent's divorce, sick aunt, record sales, etc... The one thing that struck me is that Britney is now saying that she is growing up and so she partakes in activities that people her age are interested in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the drinking age 21? Actually this isn't what irritates me the most. What really gets on my nerves is the following quote in regards to sex:

"Who really cares if I've had sex? It's nobody's business. Trust me, I'm not going to have a press conference to announce it. If I mess up, I'm human. If I have a drink or I'm with someone, I'm human. I'm no different than anyone else my age."

It's funny to me that she seems irritated by the sex thing, when she in fact was the one to make a pledge that she would remain a virgin until she married. Her publicist should have told her to keep quiet back then, because she in fact made it everyone's business since she used to talk about it quite often. It's funny because her mother says how mature Britney is, but when you read comments like this, as well as most everything else that comes out of her mouth, she really is far from mature. Here's a thought - how about not putting yourself in a position to... "mess up" in the first place? The true sign of maturity and self responsibility is making positive choices as well as surrounding one's self with positive influences.

Just wondering what everyone else thought? I definitely have my opinions about Britney and how she carries herself in regards to how it affects young people, especially young girls. Her "I'm a virgin, but I'm also a slave for you" dichotomy has gotten old and tired. I know that this is ridiculous in the entertainment world, as there are very few artists who take their responsibility as role models seriously because it all comes down to money. I guess it brings forth the old saying, "Why bite the hand that feeds you?"

Any opinions?

My opinion is that her media machines came up with all of that garbage.
I never believed her for one moment.

I really, really , REALLY don't like her. Yeah, isnt it funny that before this she was proud to tell people she was a virgin, but now she a bit nervous around the subject. My opinion of her is that anyone with a pretty face, who doesnt eat, can sing to songs written for her, which are computerly fixed. Do oyu notice that she never goes without the bellyshirts? I'd have a little more respect for her, if she wore normal clothes, and pants were you ould actually wear underwear with.

If it wasn't her it would've been someone else. It is the nature of the beast.

As for the "media machines" I can only say "amen" to that. Having worked in publicity and being in the media for over 20 years I know these people live, eat and breath what makes people talk about and remember their client.

Hey, it worked, didn't it?? :earseek:

As for the clothes thing, yes, I'm GLAD I have a boy now, too. My son is in elementary school and when I see a little girl dressed like what a MAN likes I could just scream!!! WHAT is that mother thinking??? Men get turned on by what they SEE and it is beyond inappropriate to have a baby, and in elementary school that is what they are, dressed in a way to turn on someone. I will NEVER get it.

lol, I wears t-shirts everyday! Its not comfortable dressing that way!

I love Britney Spears, and I try not to judge people for what they are wearing, big deal if she shows her stomach or whatever ,if I had that body I would do the same. I have a seven year old daughter who loves Britney Spears, I am the one responsible for dressing my child not miss spears. I am a shopaholic so I know that there are clothes out there that are like hers, but there is also clothes out there that are not, we as parents make the choice of buying them. If it wasnt Britney it would be someone else everyone would be picking on, I too just got done reading the people article, I cant even imagine what she goes through in a day, I wish her the best. and the whole sex thing big deal if she does it I personally dont care, she is only 20 years old and so she made a mistake by saying I will never have sex till I am married, she was young, how many thing have all of us said that we wish we could take back the only difference is when we say it the media doesnt take off with it and make it their lead story. and one more thing I cant even imagine being told on a daily basis that you are a role model for all young girls and everything you say and do could affect them, think about it I am a role model for one 7yr old and that is tough enough .

If I had the body for the clothes..I still wouldnt wear them, cuz I have more respect for myself than that, also I'd like to attract the guys that are actually interested in me, and not how I look.

Like I said, entertainers always talk about not wanting to be role models because then they can't do and say what they wish, well here's a thought to ponder - If you don't want children to look up to you, (and please don't think that I am saying that entertainers should be role models, I absolutely disagree with that), then don't sell yourself to these children. And better yet, why not give back all of the money that all of these children have spent on your merchandise? Britney wants these young children to spend money on her merchandise and buy her albums, but she does not want to be classified as a role model? So she only wants to have influence over how much money they spend on her, but nothing else? Sorry, that doesn't work with me. If these children are good enough to spend money on her products, then the least she can do is be a tad more responsible in the choices that she makes. She, along with most other entertainers have no problems with taking people's money, but as soon as they are criticized for something, they cry about not wanting to be role models. The very people who they claim are pressuring them, are the ones who are keeping them in business - but let us not forget, the business of entertainment dictates that you must sell yourself to these same people in order to be successful. Isn't it amazing - Britney had no problem doing this when she first started, but now that she's the 'Pop Princess' she no longer thinks that it's fair that these same people who have kept her on top for years, should judge her behaviour! This is why the entertainment world is so messed up!

I can't imagine how hard it must be to spend each day spending all of the millions of dollars these kids have spent on you, and as an entertainer you decide that you don't want any connections or ties to them whatsoever - I can think of several other 'jobs' that use this same line of thinking, and they aren't any jobs that we should be talking about on a family board! So, you are right whirlsy, it must be so hard to be Britney! If only for the simple reason that each and every day you have less personal integrity than you had the day before. Yeah, don't we all wish we were Britney. :(

I somewhat agree...but people in the entertainment business(not just britney) if they dont want to be role models, then they shouldnt be in the entertainment industry, that was their choice, they stepped into the limelight..if they dont want to be one..maybe they should step back out..its one of the disadvantages of being a celebrity dealing with the press. I for one..wouldnt want to be Britney, and I know quite a few people who wouldnt also. Sorry if my opinions are offending you, but think also, that you dont have to believe in them.

"It upsets me to no end to see 5 and 6 year olds in sheer, half tops and belly cut jeans."

What really upsets me to no end is that parents seem to have forgotten how to say "NO" to their 5 and 6 year old little girls who want to dress like a 20 year old pop star. Let's face it most of the money spent on "Britney" comes from the parent's pocket, not the child's.

Whirlsy.....great post!

We are once again bashing Britney Spears as if she is totally responsible for the moral decay of today's children...give me a break. If it were only that easy.....

About the sex thing....big deal. She was young (16 or 17?) when she said she was a virgin and wanted to stay that way. I can't remember how many of my friends said the same thing when we were in high school, only to change their minds later when they had a serious, steady boyfriend in college. The only difference is that Britney's words are broadcasted across the world.

But...I don't like Britney, mainly because I feel she doesn't have much talent. I think her handlers were responsible for marketing her to young girls, and being a young girl herself, she went along with it. I think she would like nothing more than to have adult fans now and to NOT be a role model to young girls.

Actually i think she said the sex thing when she was 18 or 19. If she wasnt planning on going thru with waiting, then she shouldnt have said anything about it.

I think she's human.

Yes your mind changes a million times from the time you are 16, 18, or 20.

And if she wants to have sex, that's her buisness not anyone elses. PERIOD!

BUT

If SHE is going to be the one to "hold a press confrence" or make a comment on it, she better be ready for the backlash!

And in my opinion, Britney better be a little nicer to her younger audience, because the majority of Adults see through the no talent pop princess.

Just think, in 10 years, she will be on VH1's Where are they now...it's just a matter of time..

Isn't it amazing how someone with so little talent and brains can actually make more money than all of us put together?

::sigh::

she has talent and I personally dont know her to be in the position to say that she has no brains, If you have been to any of her concerts ( i have) you would see the girl has talent.

Sounds like a perfectly normal human reaction to me. :)
