British try do a deal for British hostage

I don't think a deal will be done, there's just too much bad publicity involved. But this fantasy that people have that governments don't do deals with terrorists, is just that, a fantasy. Even American right wing republican governments have done deals with terrorists.

Not gonna deny that. Just saying that it's a bad idea to do so.

1) Can I see a link that shows the British government is doing a deal

and

2) There is no equating Ireland and Iraq. The British government negotiated with the ELECTED representitives of all sides. Kingbilly/JJ/Van Helsing may not like the fact that Sinn Fein was included but I am certainly not going down that avenue again!

PS - In the past the government met with the IRA, and although that may have been a mistake, they did have political objectives that were able to be discussed. Not the case with al Qaida.

Your quite right acepepper

I certainly don't understand Kingbilly/JJ/Van Helsing thing :scratchin

All i see Loftus is that you agree that Britain has talked to Terrorists before. So what makes you say they can't talk to any other terror group.

What is the goal of the terrorist groups currently operating in Iraq?

What can we do to satisfy them to such a degree that they would no longer commit acts of terror?

They will not be content with the removal of troops from a particular region, or the hand over of a particular parcel of land.

Two of their stated goals are the utter annihilation of every Jew on earth, and the elimination of all other human beings who do not convert to their strain of Islam.

Short of the accomplishment of those two goals, they will continue to commit acts of terror.

You're seeing what you want to see again:rolleyes:

Go back and read the bit about political objectives.

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've got him on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

Ken Bigley deserves to live.... just as the two american citizens deserved to live...These people were out there making a living...It is so so tragic that two of them whether american or british had to fall foul off these inhumane (cannot even call them people)monstrous beings... All i can say on this subject is, that the victims & the victims families are more than worthy of our prayers..God bless Kenneth Bigley & his family.....

So if your a coach of a team that keeps on losing, do carry on as if nothing is wrong or do you try something different in the hope that things will change.

We are trying a different approach. We aren't treating terrorist acts a crimes like the previous administrations did.

of course they deserve to live. That's not the point. If we aquiesce simply because people deserve to live, we will never make any traction in the war on terrorism. You'd think people would have learned that by now.

Talk to them Yea, right. What would we be negotiating, exactly. The release of two prisoners. And why these two women, exactly? Why not ALL prisoners? And after, that, then what? Do you really think the terrorists will say "You know, those folks aren't so bad after all. They actually listened to us. Felt our pain. Understood us. I love them so much now. How wrong we have been about them all these years. Okay, everybody! Pack up! War's over. We love Americans!!! Lay down your arms. We've been wrong about them."

How naive can one be?

I respect your opinion...I am not naive, all i wanted to say was that the hostages & thier families should be in our thoughts ...Thats all.....I am so sorry if my previous reply offended you or anyone else....

Giving Arafat credibility certainly didn't cause him to change tactics.

Capitulating to the demands of Terrorist Murderer nutcases doesn't work and, to top it off, it's really the most moronic ideas I've heard presented on here.

I was thinking about this situation this morning to myself. And I truly believe if we gave into their demands and freed the women (or whoever), they would still kill the hostages. They are savages, I don't think we can make a deal with them, they'd break it anyway!

My apologies. I was not addressing the naive comment to you. I could have formated my response better. Again, my apologies.

Yup, That tune does seem appropriate, except for the "welcome" part.

What exactly do think the long range goals of these terrorists are? If you release 2 Iraqi women this time what will their demands be next time. Or do you think there will be any further demands. Maybe they will be satisfied and leave future civilians alone:rolleyes:

Once you cave into them you are sending the very strong message that if you make us uncomfortable enough, if you do something repulsive enough we will give you exactly what you want.

I wish we could negotiate the release of all of these people but you cannot negotiate these people. Nothing you ever give them would be enough.
