If anyone out there is with british gas and pay with direct debit ,have you had a letter saying your monthly payments have gone up? If you have call them to complain. We had a bill come yesterday and it said we are in credit by £110 and still at the bottom of the page it says they have reviewed our account and out monthly payment is going up by £12!!! Dh phoned them to ask how they can justify this. We then had to give them a current reading and we were found to be over £120 in credit so they ended up reducing our payment by £4 a month instead of putting it up by £12. If this happens to every customer think of the interset they are getting off our over payments!!!

yep, we are the same

I really want to change companies but it is in DH name and he is away for 2 weeks!

Every time I try to phone BG they wont talk to me !!!
:furious:

Hi

We have had countless problems with BG. We arranged a certain amount of money to be paid monthly for quarterly bills. In the end we were paying less. So we had to increase our monthly gas bills. The next bill came in and again found we were paying less. Apparently we use more energy than any other 3 bed house :confused3 Yet again we have increased our monthly payment. Hopefully it wont happen again.

We had a letter from them on Monday increasing our payments from £60 per month to £94 per month

Yes we do have a large house and we do like to keep it warm, but that's over a 50% increase! So far we haven't called to complain, but perhaps we should?

We switched to Powergen recently, and have already noticed a difference in our bills, plus we get Tesco points too!

We've received a letter as well but it was ages ago. Think it was an increase of about £30 per month. Haven't bothered to complain

I had b.gas years ago when my son was a baby i was left with no gas for 3 days with a four month old in the winter months unable to bath him he had to have a sleepsuit and clothes on in the daytime and sleepsuit and tracksuit at night.
when i put in a letter of complaint they acknowleged it with a postcard type thing saying they were looking into it and then heard nothing from them again!!!!
No apology nothing i left and have and never will go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

British Gas were featured on watchdog AGAIN this week for this very reason, in the whole history of the programme BG has been featured more times than ANY other company, with complaints going back nearly 30 years! Time to call them I feel and at least threaten the move to another provider. They were proven to be the most expensive gas provider too, and with the worst customer service so don't be lazy, move provider.

British Gas featured on Watchdog on Tuesday about their poor customer service and billing errors!

The BG bloke says they have recently had a new billing system installed so that may be the problem :)

We dumped them ages ago when we changed our gas and electricity suppliers.
It's was very eay to switch suppliers.

We aren't with British Gas but got a letter from EDF, who are our suppliers, the other week wanting to change our monthly Direct Debit from £35 to £120...... :scared1: :scared:

I rang them up, to complain, and we agreed on £60 - still a big jump but even the call centre had no idea where the £120 figure came from! :confused3

i have just put all our details into uswitch and scotish power could save us £189 per year. thats a 14 day disney pass paid for!!!!

BG still can not figure out why our bills are so high for a 3 bed house. My reply was I dont know I was hoping you knew that :confused3 I am having to take regular readings to figure out what is happening with it. :confused3

I have been using British Gas for ages. My agreed monthly DD has been high enough that twice they have sent me a refund. These refunds have invariably arrived the week before they put their prices up.

By overpaying on my DD, I have effectively bought my gas in advance. By giving me a refund, then putting my DD up, they are buying my gas at the old rate and selling it back to me at the higher rate.

Good advice Tim. We changed from BG a while ago due to the price hikes :)

If your in credit with your bg bill, ask them to send you a cheque out for the amount owing to you.

British Gas put our DD up earlier this year by £60 a month, I rang to complain but they did it anyway and ended up by being £400 in credit. It took about 5 phone calls to get my money refunded. I am definately going to change to another supplier.

Uswitch.com is a good site. Put in all your details and they will recommend the cheapest deal for you. My most recent switch was from Scottish Power to Powergen.I got a free bottle of champagne plus with Powergen I get Tesco points.

Before Scottish Power,I was with Powergen, before that Amerada. I treat gas and electrcity as I would car insurance and Disney holidays - I shop around for the best price. :)

I left BG years ago, and would never go back. I am with EDF and I have to say I am fairly satisfied with them, although they did try to hike my Gas monthly payment up quite high, but when I complained they reduced it to a more reasonable level ( I was in arrears so it made sense to up the monthly repayment).

But what annoys me is that I thought all this pay monthly by direct debit lark would be reviewed yearly, and that any price adjustments would be made once a year, after all they are supposed to look at your consumption over the whole year, winter and summer, and then split that total amount into 12 monthyly payments, so I thought anyway. But oh no, they seem to review things once a quarter, and so I quite regularly get my monthly repayments adjusted. This is really frustrating as most people choose this method so that you can budget better, but it doesn't work so well when they are changing the amount so often. :confused3
