Brita versus Culligan water bottle filters

Wow! Those look like just what I'll need (I hear the disney water isn't so good and I don't wanna lug 6 bottles of dasani water into the park every day, lol)

I also bought one of those fanny packs with a water bottle carrier in it. I plan on going into the park hands free. :)

I would also like to hear some Culligan reviews! Also, if you got their plastic bottle or just the filter thing you pop on any water bottle? Also, where to buy?
Thanks!

I have one of those Culligan water bottles and I tried it. I put water in there, and it tasted very funny. It didn't come with any instructions, so maybe I am doing something wrong. I e-mailed waterfilters.net and have not heard anything back from them. They were going to check with Culligan to see if the filter is bad or something. So, needless to say, I have not used the water bottle. I was not happy! :guilty:

I wasn't aware that FL water tasted so terrible or that these portable water filtration devices existed until the DIS. So, I read all about the Brita Fill 'n Go. It sounded great... BUT who wants to buy something that is discontinued and would require that you HUNT to find the containers and the refills. Uh, not me. :sad2: So, I found Culligan on ebay. I bought two portable water bottles for $11.50 (including shipping). The Culligan brand is well known in our area so I trust the quality. Culligan also has a website: http://www.culligan-store.com/

They are VERY similar to the Brita Fill 'n Go. The filters lasts through 15 gallons and removes 97% lead and reduces chlorine, bad taste, and odor. I haven't had any problems with the bottle and it works great. I can't wait to try them in FL. You should definitely consider purchasing.

My bottles each came in a box with directions. The (summarized) directions say to wash the bottle with mild dish soap (they are not dishwasher safe!). Rinse the filter with water only. Push the filter onto the cap. Fill the bottle with tap water to within one inch of the top. Screw the cap on and squeeze one bottle of water through the filter before using. Then refill the bottle and begin using it.

Did you slowly squeeze a bottle of water through the filter before drinking it? That may be what the problem was. I hope this helps.

P.S. The directions also say that you can keep your filter in the fridge to increase the storage life and quality.

You may want to check out this product as well. It filters not only for taste, but bacteria as well. (I'm terribly afraid of getting sick on my trip, lol). My local canadian tire sells them too.

That bottle looks great and I am sure that it works great too, but it is a little pricey because it filters water that is untreated and unfiltered. Like when you go camping or hiking so that you can drink from a spring, etc. I am sure that it would work fine with the water in FL too but it is really unnecessary if that would be its only use. Just trying to save you some $$.

No, I did not try to squeeze one bottle of water through the filter first. I will try this. Thanks!!!!

Ooooh I sense the next DIS craze will be Culligan water bottles!
Thanks for the reviews! :thumbsup2 I placed my order!

I know that is the main purpose of these bottles, but I've heard of people having stomach bugs develop after drinking florida water (read somewhere in the DIS boards), and these filters remove Giardia which is a common cause of vomiting and diarhea. Back when my grandparents lived in the countryside, my uncle says he would be sick for a few days every time he went back home.

I'd rather spend the money than take my chances. This is my first trip to the world after all. (I was going to spend $32 US on water bottles and $5 a day US to store them in a locker. $80 canadian for two reusable bottles doesn't seem too bad in comparison. It also beats paying $3 a bottle at 12 bottles a day in the parks = $36 a day... 12 cups of water each in hot weather)

Are these bottles only available online, or can you get them in a store like Walmart or Target? Please let me know, thanks!

(I think) I have seen them in stores, but I can't for the life of me remember where. I will start paying attention and let you know if I find them. It may have been somewhere like Academy Sports... or not, I don't know why I am thinking that. You could call your sports/camping shops in your area and ask. Keep me posted. :)

I just checked my local Target today in the filtered water section where the Brita stuff is and I didn't see any Culligan bottles.

First Time and Mickey, thanks for responding. I was out this weekend and didn't see any :( I hope to get 3 before we go. This bottle would save us a bunch! I'll continue to look too! Keep me posted :)

Hers a link for another option in water bottle filters, I just go mine in the mail and will post a review later today after I try them. You buy the filter and screw it onto what ever water bottle you have that fits.

Well I thought I would go for it and try the Culligan bottle. I just bought the 16oz sports bottle with the filter on ebay. I'll let you know how it works out!

I tried my new filter today and it works very well. I think we will take a few on our cruise so we don't have to worry about traveling with vast amounts of bottled water . I understand a case of water is very expensive on a ship.
