Next April DD and I are flying Bristol/Newark/Orlando and I fancy staying near the airport the night before to avoid a very early start. I'm not sure whether we want parking at the hotel or will just drive and park in the airport long stay (depends on comparative costs).

Any recommendations, please?

We stayed at the Mendip Gate Guest House Bristol Road Churchill last year. Found it comfortable and good value for money. They have a website.
Would recomend parking at the long stay car park at the airport as it is more convenient than getting an expensive taxi.

A huge thumbs up for the Mendip Gate Hilary, its very comfortable and they are so welcoming. There was a lovely breakfast and the husband runs you to the airport.

http://www.themendipgate.co.uk We stayed in the Churchill Suite and the bed was sooo comfy. There is a pub just down the road and another just opposite, we had a lovely buy one get one free meal there, very good value, and huge portions.

We hope to do the Bristol - Newark - Orlando route again next October and would have no hesitation booking the Mendip Gate again.

we stayed at the Premier Inn last year (around £55 for a family room) then used the meet & greet parking service at the airport itself (around £75 special offer for 15 days) this worked really well for us.

Thanks for the suggestions :thumbsup2

I'll check them out :)

Hi Hilary :goodvibes

We have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Bridgwater Road and can reccommend it. We booked through a "Friends and Family" rate that is available on the Internet with no problems - I think it was £50 per night for a family room.

The parking onsite was pretty pricey so we went with our usual Silver Zone at the airport.

I was always a bit nervous about booking a B&B as unfortunately we've had a bad experience in the past with one at Bristol airport, so it's good to see the personal recommendations above :)

It's ideal if you are flying with Continental (which I imagine you are?) to do the 24 hours before check in, and then you only have to be there an hour before the flight.

Newditch farm B&B. No frills but very clean and tidy. Great Breakfast and cheap parking rates. 2 minutes from airport, free pick up and drop off.
Highly recommend.

Thanks for all the great info :)

DH and I have flown the Bristol/Newark/Orlando route once before, and one of the big 'perks' was the fact that Bristol is close enough for us not to need an overnight stop the night before! Well, yes, it is ... but I really don't function well at 4:30 in the morning! Next time I'm planning a much more leisurely approach ;)

Just wanted to report back in case it's helpful for anyone else - although the demise of the Bristol/Newark route for Continental means this is less likely!

In May, DD and I stayed in the Premier Inn about 10 miles away from Bristol airport and thought it was ok, but nothing special (£65).

This last trip, at the end of August, DH and I stayed in the Mendip Gate and thought it was excellent (£55) :) Like Jules, we had the Curchill Suite. We would definitely stay here again, given the opportunity!
