Bringing your own microwave??

Okay, I know this is a strange question but we are going to try to cut costs anywhere we can. Do the Disney resort hotels allow you to bring your own microwave? We have a very small one that would be okay to pack and bring with us (we are traveling by car). There are some very picky eaters in our group and being able to prepare their favorite foods instead of wasting money on a meal they won't eat would save us some considerable amounts of money! I hope someone has the answer to this strange question! Thanks!!

Typically the food courts at the various resorts have microwaves for use; why not plan that instead of taking your own?

On our last trip we stayed two nights at the contemp, it was beautiful. Well while DW,Ds and I were in the food court waiting for our dinners. A woman came up to the Microwave and poped in one of those frozen mac and cheese dinners. Well a CM came over to her and asked her not to do it again and if there was something they wanted and it was'nt on the menu then all they had to do was ask. BTW mac and cheese was on the menu that night. Just an fyi.

Yes, you can bring one. A friend of mine just got back and had taken hers - even though I must admit I laughed at her - she said they looked like the Clampett's with all of their luggage. Anyway, she took one because she has a newborn and would need to heat up the bottles.

That's very unusual...if you call any of the hotels with a micro and ask if you will be allowed to use it..they have always said yes. They prefer you use theirs, rather than cooking in your room and leaving smells behind for the next person. We have always used the micros and toasters. Could you have misunderstood? Or had she made a mess or burned something?

Wow, it's amazing that they don't enforce the refillable mug program but they will bother someone about this. I know at WL frozen food was sold in the Merchantile and I assume this is probably true for many other resorts. If you choose to buy this where do they expect you to heat it up but it the food court?

Wow, I can't believe that CM actually said that! What is the microwave for, then? I saw people using it constantly (for their own frozen foods, hot cereals, spaghettios, etc.) on our last trip.
I don't think most people will run into any problem with the CM on this issue.

Back to the OP question--I'm not sure about official Disney resorts but we're staying at Shades of Green and in the info packet they sent us it specifically states that due to fire codes no microwaves are allowed in the rooms. I guess you'll have to call your resort to ask about this specifically (and you could ask about the microwave in the food court as well). :)

when we stay at the asmusic or movies we have seen lots of people use the micro. at the food courts . actually there is at least 2 if not 3 there. i would just use the ones at the hotel instead of bringing one. then you can just use your own food. have a great time.

Many of the WD resorts rent Micros to guest . I would suggest you call and ask if there are micros available to rent at your resort. If there are then you know that the room can withstand the micro wattage without a fire hazard or anything else. You could even ask what the wattage/volts theirs is to be sure yours in within safety standards for the room.
Hope you have a great trip!!:wave2:

When we stayed at the Yacht Club, I specifically asked about microwaves and coffee makers.

Both were available on request and subject to supply. No charge for either. Since we couldn't reserve them in advance I asked about bringing our own. I was told it was no problem at all.

We ended up taking our chances and it all worked out fine. We made our requests at check in and they were in the room by the time it was ready for us.

My guess is that the frozen foods people are microwaving may just take too long in the microwave - more than a couple of minutes. That's probably why the CM said something.

I say this because I work at a nursery school and some parents have packed a mac & cheese frozen dinner to be nuked for lunch and it took about 20 min. We asked the parents to cook it first at home and we'd be happy to just heat it up for the child.

I look at the microwaves at Disney to be used for heating things up too, not actually cooking frozen foods with. I always thought the frozen foods sold at the stores were really for the villa guests that have private kitchens. But, what do I know, I don't cook a thing when I'm on vacation. :teeth:
