Bringing your own drink mixers buying just the liquor at the bar?

Does anyone ever pack their own drink mixers and then order the hard liquor at the bar? I like to use the zero calorie margarita mixes so I was thinking of bringing my mix and then ordering tequila shots at the bar to add into my drink. Can I order a double and bring it back to my room? Anyone done this? Is it cost effective? I know some cruiselines let you buy a bottle of liquor to have delivered to your room. Disney doesn't have anything like that do they?

My father in law has done this twice, he brought Guava mix so he could have Guava margaritas. Both times the bartenders put his name on the box of mix and kept it at the bar for him when he wanted another one.

This is a timely question for me as I was considering bringing a carton of milk from the buffet to ask them to make a white russian with (they usually use the fake mix stuff that they make frozen mudslides with). I wasn't sure if that would look strange though. I'm curious to see what others have done.

Hmmm.. I find that interesting. When I've ordered Kahlua and cream, I've seen them using an actual carton of cream (or half & half). I'm pretty sure if you specified that you wanted your White Russian made with real milk and not the mix they should be able to do it. When I've asked for drinks that they've never heard of they ask for the recipe and are quite willing to make a stab at making it up for me.

The mix is just quicker.

That is good to know. Thanks! :thumbsup2

In 17 Disney cruises, any time I have ordered one (my usual after dinner drink) I have never gotten a good one. We have become friendly with 1 particular bartender and last time we sailed with her we got to talking about what they make them with because they seem different on board. She said its the mix they use because its not real and when I order one just tell the bartender to use very little "milk" so that there isn't too much of it in there.

With that said we too have found the bartenders to be very accommodating. I've been able to get the creme brulee martini, from the Meridian Lounge menu, while sailing on the Magic. I think the bartenders like experimenting. ;)

The bartenders rotate through all the bars, so it's not experimenting really. It's just making something that they normally only serve when they are working in Meridian. and I've known several to leave the Dream class ships to go back to the Classics because they like the itinerary better. I've had the rotation discussion with several of the bartenders in the past. Example: If they are on the Fantasy and they have The Tube as their on-boat assignment that week, they will most likely be at the Conched Out Bar on Castaway Cay because that's the usual rotation.

Then again, as a former bartender I can honestly say that I always liked it when I got an order for something different than the usual drinks. It's nice to flex your chops every once in a while.

This is true. In the case I was mentioning the bartender in Rockin Bar D had not been on the new ships yet(this was 2012) and didn't know the drink. We just told him what was in it and he played around with it. Ironically we have since seen him on the Dream. ;)
