bringing water, soda & beer??

When we cruise Disney we have a rental car and we drive past the ship and go to the 7-11 on the left side of the raod. There we stock up on beer and these really cute little blue Margarettas! They come in 4 packs and the bottles are PLASTIC!!! Really inexpensive and they taste great! If we go on a 3 or 4 day we just take a soft side cooler on. If it's a 7 day we fold the soft side cooler and put it and our newly aquired liabations in a roller bag and check it all. we have never had any problems!

I'd like to know this too...we will also be stopping on Sunday morning for wine......

Your concerns are valid. Brevard County does not allow the sale of alchohol on Sundays until, I think, noon.

we buy at the 7-11 near the port and yes they sell on sunday. i think you aren't suppose to buy brfore noon last trip we bought at about 11:30. Maybe the 7-11's clock was off!!

We carryon our liquor in our backpacks and this past trip we checked in our soft sides cooler packed with soda and gatorade and they took it no problems from us. What I did was put everything into ziplocs bags prior to putting into the cooler. That way everything was water proof just in case something happened.

Just my 2 cents for those of you looking to buy NON soft drinks...I am really going to give myself a bad rep here, but here goes anyway...

You may want to consider how strong you like your beer before purchasing in Florida. If you're driving in, and have the option of purchasing elsewhere, consider this...

Different states have different alcohol/volume ratios allowed - Florida's isn't the highest - coming from Mardi Gras - where the beer is at its sinfully strongest, DH always makes us stop before we cross the state line - pretty sad, but true:jester:

It's an old college Spring Break habit that we can't seem to break:crazy:

When you're used to a certain beer, and only a certain amount of that beer to get that certain feeling...well, after that, Florida beer just gets me bloated::yes::

Like I said, just my two cents! We'll be packing some, and also a bottle of "Jack" - on our last cruise (Carnival), DH "smuggled" our bourbon in a recycled plastic Listerine bottle - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME - he was the most sterile drunk on board:teeth:

I like that....................."Jack in a bottle"!!! Do you call that Whisterine?:hyper:

That reminds me of when I was pregnant (all three times!) our friends dearly loved it. I carried a backpack in to the college football games. No one ever checked my bag (afterall I was a pregnant woman!). BUT, I had about a case of beer in it!!!!! OOPSIE!

:cool2:

BTW.......I was the designated driver! No alcohol for me then!

Are these like wine coolers? Or are they real liquor bottled into a pre-mixed cocktail? May have to investigate!

Marilee

If you want your beer strong buy it when you get to your destination port. Our beer is stronger than yours. And our rum is cheaper and tastes better. Just buy enough to get you that far.

A Brevard County resident checking in :) . In the county areas (those areas not incorporated by a city) you can buy beer and wine before noon. Liquor I do think is 1:00 though. Hmm lemme see if I can find the info. If the store is within a City then the rules may be different, Melbourne for example is 1:00 for beer, wine and liquor.

Edited to add: Okay looked it up, yes liquor cannot be sold until 1:00 on Sundays. Wine and Beer sales start at 7:00 AM no matter the day.

OK - here's a new one from a non Broward (sp?) county resident - is the Publix we would be stopping at on the way to the port in the city??? or county??? Boy, what I wouldn't do for my wine :)

For folks who want to bring wine...it's no problem. If you want it with dinner, you could be subject to a "corkage" charge. It's in writing, but I'm not sure that it's strictly enforced. :)

We also bring drinks... beer, cokes, and some bottled water. If you have kids (or like me, want some cola first thing in the morning) you may also want to consider bringing a couple of 2-liter bottles. We used one of our shelves (in the TV cabinet) as a "mini pantry." It was great to be able to fix myself a small glass of coke or even a mixed drink...without wasting 1/2 a can. We also take wine coolers and a small bottle of alcohol...but as previous posters mentioned, alcohol is MUCH cheaper to buy in the Islands. :)

Have fun!

That's Brevard, not Broward. Broward County is Fort Lauderdale.

Anyway... the three Publix on my maps are in the cities of Cocoa, Merritt Island, and Cocoa Beach. The Winn Dixie in Cocoa across from the Publix there appears to be in unincorporated Brevard County.

Thanks Dave! I am not very familiar with that area. Heck I got lost going to the port. It seems I can't follow big bright signs saying which entrance I needed to go to. :o

I know I read somewhere that you can do this, but it was something outrageous like a $17 fee. Does anyone know if this is correct? I would probably pay up to $5 to bring our own wine, but not $17!

As long as it is a soft-sided cooler, you can bring it onboard as a carryon. Just don't use any ice in the cooler.

I'm assuming this means just until you're luggage reaches your stateroom, right?

If you bring your own beer onboard, do you just take "huggies" along so that's it not so obvious what you are drinking? Are you allowed to drink it outside of your stateroom?

Yep. $15 plus a 15% gratuity for a total of $17.25. Part of it is for the actual service. The rest is to compensate for the revenue they're losing by your not buying their wine.

This is really relative. If you're bringing wine that costs $7-$12/bottle retail that would be marked up to around $30-$35 or so on the wine list, the savings is pretty small. If you're bringing $30/bottle retail stuff, you'll save a lot compared to the wine list price, if that vintage/quality is even available. You're also only paying a gratuity on the corkage fee, not the amount you paid for the bottle you brought yourself. If you bring a $30 bottle and pay $15 corkage plus gratuity, you'll still save a small amount compared to buying a $45 bottle from the wine list, since the $45 bottle will carry a 15% gratuity on the full price.
