Bringing Water Onboard

It's been a couple of years for us, but at Port Canaveral we had a case of water (plastic wrapped case from Publix) and we checked it curbside through DCL and they brought it to our room. They slapped a luggage tag on it with our cabin number, I tipped the porter, and the water showed up at our cabin without me having to carry it all over the ship. Again, this may have changed (or it may depend on the porter you get), but this seems like a better option than carrying it all over the ship until you get to your cabin.

The porters don't work for Disney, they work for the port. They're not going to jeopardize a tip by saying "no" to checking whatever you want.

That said, the carry on requirement has been on the books for a long time. Only in the last year or so has it been "enforced" in any way.

Yeah, i'll just bring on some cans in my carry on. I wonder if they have it free in the dining room or if its a charge. hmmmm. They had soda water on our 2013 wonder cruise, but in 2014 they didn't have it on the dream, so I feel your pain. Thanks dream! ugh

I successfully ordered soda water in the dining rooms on Wonder, Magic and Fantasy. I have seen a number of discussions on this topic here on the DIS and the general experience is that there is no problem ordering it. However, now and then there is the odd person who is told that soda water is only available in cans and has to be paid for seperately. I have started to wonder if that is not a training/language issue. The server might not really understand what you want (just a carbonated water from the drink machine without added sirup). So, in case a server tells you it is not available for free, be sure that they understand what you want. And if that does not help, I would escalate it to the head server. And if DCL ever decided to indeed not let me have my carbonated water in the dining room, you would find me at guest services immediately after dinner!!

If your water leaks on someone else's luggage, DCL can charge you for the damages.

We were on the Fantasy last week after spending Friday night at The Boardwalk. After dinner at The Yachtsman, I walked across the street to the Speedway (formerly Hess) and grabbed a case of Dasani for $4.99. We took it with us on the DCL coach to Port Canaveral and I carried it through the terminal, onto the ship, and to our stateroom along with our carry-ons. No problems at all. I did try and put a luggage tag on it and send it with our checked luggage, but bell services informed me that they could not transport it with the rest of the bags and that it would have to be carried on. We were very glad to have it and the case does fit under the bed like a suitcase.

Before boarding... transfer carry-on contents to checked luggage.... unlike an airline... there is no weight limit on checked luggage going to a cruise ship.

Once the carry-on is empty... stop by Costco, Walmart, or a pharmacy to get your case of water..... start loading the bottles into your wheeled carry-on.

Very good idea about transferring the contents. We usually pack a collapsible rolling luggage into the top of one of our larger suitcases. Before we get to the ship, the car service we use stops at a store/liquor store and we buy our waters, sodas, beer, wine and some snacks and put it into the extra piece of luggage or carry the lighter items in a grocery bag.
