bringing water bottles onboard

Thanks! It sounds like it should be fine. At least I know there's bottled water available on board. If we have any problem with the ship's water, we'll just have to shell out the cash for bottled. I really don't want to carry on a case if it's not necessary.

I've read that Palo also serves lobster on lobster night.

We just got off the Fantasy, where we booked Palo for Lobster night to avoid the shellfish. I can state with certainty that Palo did not serve lobster during lobster night. They had their regular menu (which I think may include a shellfish menu item, but it's a far cry from giving everyone lobster!).

My DW had Viel, and I had steak.

On the Fantasy, they had a "behind the scenes" video on one of the channels. They explained that to get potable water, they boil the sea water in a slight vacuum (boiling point about 70 C), then condense the steam.
They have lots of spare heat from the engines that they can use for this and other purposes.

Just sailed on the Dream, not sure I'll be doing another DCL for a while, but trust me, I will be bringing my own water on board, using it to brush my teeth, bringing it to meals, taking it into port; that ship water was SOOOOOO NASTY! I really think it depends on what your tap water tastes like ordinarily, this stuff was nothing like what I was accustomed to. So glad it was a quick, 3-night sailing.

Yes, that is one of the methods used. However, they can't make enough potable water just using that method for all the uses onboard. Reverse osmosis is another. They also take on water in some of the ports to fill the water reserve tanks.

I plan on carrying on a case of water. Once were on, can I just leave it outside o our room with our name on it, or do we need to carry it around with us?

You won't have access to your room (or the areas with rooms) until 1:30. So you'll have to carry it with you until then.

You mean like somewhere under all this?

Wow, never thought about what the luggage goes through before you see it again....thanks for the picture, it really is pretty funny!!!

Yes that's how they do it seen the film.

Easiest way to handle that is to bring it onboard in a wheeled bag or wheeled duffle. Makes carting it around so much easier.

Of course, if you are an exact rule follower - then don't do it. What is the risk of us doing this? They take the flat of water and don't let us board? OK, then I'm out 3.50 or whatever the flat cost.

I've read of an incident where beverages leaked and got someone else's luggage and clothes wet. The captain made the owner of said spilled liquids pay up the cost of dry cleaning / laundering the victims' items that got wet. And this was before the luggage was delivered to the staterooms. The offender had to pay up or get off the ship.

Very expensive drinks. :scared:

What about on port days? Can you bring water in a personal water bottle off the shop with you?

Yes, we do that all of the time. If there is a restriction on doing so, it will likely be mentioned in the Navigator or they will tell you in advance.

Wow, this makes me really nervous. I'm allergic to shellfish and iodine and I get really sick if I swim in salt water. I wonder if the water will be a problem for me. Also my dad is on dialysis and has to be very careful about his salt intake. I'm guessing the same water is also fed through the fountain drink machines?

I am highly allergic to all seafood because of the iodine. In fact, I do not even use iodized salt although my allergist said that it would probably be fine. I have never had a problem swimming in salt water although I very rarely do so as I do not like the residue on your skin afterwards. In any event, I have never had a problem with the water on board ship. I would imagine that the process of desalination removes most of the salt (hence the name). I personally find the water tasteless but for people who do not like the taste, it is likely due to the fact that it is different from what they are used to. I would never drink the water when I visited my parents because I thought that it tasted like swamp water and they thought that our water tasted like metal because of the high levels of minerals. Both waters were perfectly fine for drinking but we could each definitely taste the difference.

Is there a lobster night on the 4 day Dream? I hadn't read about that. I'm already nervous about the amount of seafood they serve. I don't even go into places like Red Lobster or Joe's Crab Shack, but I've read so much about how great they are with allergies on the ship I thought it would be ok.

I find it fairly easy to avoid the seafood and I find that they are very good with allergies. I make sure to avoid foods in the buffet that might be alongside seafood as people may mix the use of serving utensils. In the MDRs for all meals including breakfast and lunch, as long as you have made sure to indicate your seafood allergy, they will cook your food in a different kitchen or kitchen area to prevent cross contamination. The only places that they cannot do that is the quick service places on deck.

Yes another person who avoids all fish and seafood and its easy bar some night buffets like pirates night, people may knock the labels around so take care there. Palo however is easy.

do you have to bring water in a "sealed" case ? i love those 2 liter bottles of smart water and they don't come in a "case" i was going to carry on 4 of them for my gym time so that i don't have to refill, am i allowed?

You can bring as many (or as few) bottles/boxes/cases of whatever non-alcoholic beverages as you wish. It just needs to be carried on, not in your checked bags.
