Bringing The Magic Home - 8/20/05

DCL forgot to tell you --- you are all going to share the same upgrade CAT 3 cabin :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Soon we will be a month away from sailing :Pinkbounc

Still no room # here but we are cat 9 GTY :confused3

Maybe if all you cat 4's get bumped up we will get your room! LOL I wish! :rotfl2:

Our DD5 is so excited! She has been in swim lessons in hopes to be able to swim with the fish in the ocean this time. Here is a pic of her practicing at home with a special friend she found....

We can't wait to cruise with everyone! :flower:

No longer a CAT 4 gty, but have my room number now, its a Cat 4, but midships in a good location I am happy now! Hopfully they can now send the docs as I am off in just under three weeks to USA.

Aren't we all drooling and waiting. When I first saw the cruise on the internet (evening), I wanted to talk to a real person before booking. By waiting overnight, the cost went up $800 and I booked into a "whatever was open" status.

Now, I'm hoping for an upgrade (so you guys can all move up and open something for me!) and for our favorite server.

Actually, I'm just hoping wishing, waiting to get on my favorite ship!
Kathryn

Got our room! (Cat 4) :cool1:
Yeah, yeah!!!!!
Andrew - we are midship too. I wonder if that will help at all with any motion sickness. Last cruise we were Deck 1 and loved it - very little movement. Now off to do more cruise shopping. :)
Diane

We also obtained our room number but we are in the aft. My DH isn't very happy. I am ecstatic. :earsgirl:

I bet the cruise is feeling more real now that some of you that have been waiting so long are getting your cabin numbers.

We got our room as well. Not sure if it is good but I did A LOT of research after getting it and I think we will be ok. It is room 2000 and is listed on Dave's site as a noisy room. Someone contacted me that had the room and said they loved it. We should be ok.

Sandy, glad to hear you feel better about your room assignment, think positive and everything will be great!

Michelle

We also got our room assignment............far far far forward port side Cat 4. The major downside is it is a connecting room and we are worried about noise from room to room. My DH is less that impressed but hopefully someone can step in and tell me the rooms are fairly quiet even when connecting to some other family???????Anyone???????

Paulie

Congrats on all the room assignments! :goodvibes

We had a yard sale this past weekend and almost made enough money for our cruise tips! :cheer2:

Pamkass - I am sending you a BIG :grouphug: and a Thank you!

I'm excited but wish I had a floor plan for #6500. We did not request but got a handicap room on deck 6. Cat 8 but no split bath, tub, or couch. I called and cust service was great - they called the ship and told me there is one chair instead of the couch and a large single bathroom with shower no tub. I forgot to ask them how the bed faced and on what side of the room it is. This is so frustrating for someone who is a planner. I had great information from one former cruiser in this room, but she mainly pointed out the great handicap features. IM her and hope she responds tomorrow. I just want a floor plan. I think we will love it, but so many questions. It is that one sole window on deck six in front of the bridge. I guess I should feel special. :confused3

Hey all....glad to hear some of you are getting your cabin assignments finally.

We just got back from our 8 night Carnival cruise and I wanted to share some pics and a short report......I know it is discussed many times about other cruise lines than DCL so I wanted to share some of my experience.

Our Carnival cruise was really great....after cruising DCL 13 times I did not want to compare, but of course I did. It was an 8 night cruise out of NYC and we had 3 ports...San Juan, St. Thomas, Tortola. The ship was the Legend and it was very nice.

Our course they are two different ships completely, but Carnival did do a great job....the food was wonderful, the public spaces beautiful, though a bit over the top in decor, the breakfast buffet area on Deck 9 was huge with plenty of seating and multiple buffet lines. There were 3 pools with an adult only pool that was strictly enforced...many loungers available all over. A huge twisty slide that anyone could go on. The things I found lacking were the shows....we only enjoyed one of the production shows in the show theatre. Plenty of nighlife...our kids (17, 20, 21 loved this part of the cruise.) On DCL everything pretty much shuts down at midnight....on Carnival all the clubs/lounges (and there are many) were hopping into the wee hours. They did lots of dancing on this cruise and there many their own ages. My sister has younger kids and her kid enjoyed the kids clubs.

We had two formal nights, one with a Captains cocktail party and 95% of the ship was very dressed up on both nights. We never saw any drunken fools as many associate with the older Carnival product. There was a huge span of ages....from infants to Grand Parents. We travelled with a group of 37 and had a ball. There were many large family groups onboard.

The cabins were very spacious with lots of storage space...3 tall side by side closets, two for hanging things, one with shelves. The bathrooms were very functional and they provide a goody basket of razors, toothpaste, floss and some other things. We had a balcony cabin and paid just under $1,400 per person for two in the cabin and were upgraded to a higher deck balcony cabin (Deck 7). The kids had inside rooms and were upgraded to obstructed ocean views. My son and his cousin wound up with a handicapped room that was huge!!

Of course no one can compare to DCL's superior level of service but we did not have any issues that would keep us from cruising Carnival again....except one crew member was rude and I promptly took his name down and listed it on the comment card....besides that it was a great vacation.

It was so very convenient leaving from NYC.....we live only 30 minutes from the ship and hired a charter bus to take us all to and from the terminal. I do have to say that the embarkation and debarktion process on all other lines but DCL is very chaotic....DCL has it down to a science!!!

Here are links to our pics....there are a lot of them....277 to be exact!!!

That's great you have the cruise tips almost covered! I've been selling off things too - our cedar play structure in the backyard, old aquariums etc - every little bit helps!
Also noticed you are in Portland. We drove through there this spring on our way to San Francisco. It was one of my favorite stops on the whole trip! I'd love to go back. Actually my husband is on his way to Portland today for business. I think they are going sturgeon fishing? Does that sound right?

MJ...Thanks for the report and the pictures. As always your family is beautiful and the pictures reflect that and the great time you all obviously had. It sounds like the perfect cruise for a family reunion as you had with all the different ages. So now that your kids got to take a cruise are they less upset about missing out on the DCL one? How about DH? ;)

Glad you are back safe and sound, stay cool today!

Michelle

Thanks Michelle....the kids had a ball with all their cousins and are feeling better about not going with me in August..actually Keri will be back at school upstate NY and Brian will have already left to start school in AZ so it will be just hubby and my DD Allie....Hubby does not talk much about me being away for two weeks....and I don't want to "rock the boat" by bringing it up much...thank goodness I can gush about the repo cruise here!!!!

I need to prepare some meals for the family and stock up the freezer before I go!!!

It was a great time on this cruise and my FIL loved seeing all the grandkids!!!

I am so right there with you. Since it will only be DD and I on the cruise (Rest of kids in school and DH can't miss the opening week of the school year) I tend to only talk about the cruise to DD and here.

I haven't hit my goal weight either :guilty:
I was doing so well on my pre-cruise diet and then got a nasty cough that has lasted 4 weeks, then got a sinus cold on top of it last week. So I had to eat lots of yummy carbs to build up my strength  And of course no exercise cause that made my cough worse!
Oh well maybe next week.
