Bringing The Magic Home - 8/20/05

Estelle:

We were in 7008 & 7010 on our last cruise and love that part of the ship too! So quiet and no traffic except the occassional handsom officer ;)
We are on the other side for the repo cruise. Never thought about the shadier aspect, oh well, at least we are on the ship.

While going thru Panama, they sold postcards and postage at Guest Services. It was $1.00 per card with postage to the U.S., international postage was a little bit more. (Cash required.)

Here's a little suggestion. Some of us bought extras and gave them to our servers, room stewards. They were very appreciative. The cards had to be dropped off by 2:30pm that day in order to have the Panama postmark. :flower:

Thanks Regina! I'm still waiting for my postcard that I heard was sent from Panama. That sounded so cool!

Hope you had a nice time at DL, Mary Jo was looking forward to seeing you when we saw her that morning.

How was the wine tasting? I've seen the pictures, but haven't heard too much about the party itself.

DisneyElf, we are in cabin 7010 because my DH figured out which side would be shadier. And besides we just like that area of the ship.

Will either side be shadier? We'll be headed northwest through the canal so the starboard side should have the morning sun and the port side have the afternoon sun.

Anyone have trouble booking Palo reservations online? I was able to do everything else.

Hi Lisa  Welcome to a little bunch :rotfl2:

I didn't have trouble booking the Palos, just the excursions. Are you a Castaway Club member? If not I think you have to wait until either 75 or 60 days to be able to book online. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Val....what a fantastic job you did on the maps....very nice!!! While looking at Val's maps I noticed there really is a big concentration of DIS'ers in the tri-state area....NY/NJ/CT and even PA......on the August repo.

I know there is a big DIS meet in PA in July but would anyone from the tri-state area (or really from anywhere) be interested in meeting on a Saturday afternoon...maybe in the NYC or somewhere else...maybe Palisades Center Mall (close to the highway and TZ Bridge)???

I thought it might be fun to have a mini-meet for the August repo??? Let me know and I will spear head a date and meeting place if there is interest...I was thinking maybe mid July. ::MickeyMo

Let me know!!! Obviously it would be open to anyone from anywhere who was willing to travel a bit!!

I am very upset!! Called the Cruise Lines....all Palo seating is booked!!

The wine tasting was wonderful. We had a huge selection of wines.

Disney did a great job of making certain that everything was perfect. The food display was lovely and there was a lot left over. I know that we have pix but we're busy getting ready to leave tomorrow for our nephew's wedding. (Barely enough time to get the laundry done and repacked.)

Kara's Dad works in the wine industry and was gracious enough to talk about the different wines while the event was taking place.

It was scheduled on formal night, so you had the early diners in their evening wear while the rest of us were in our casual attire.

Most of all, it was a fantastic way to get acquainted with each other. You can't beat the combination of good wine, good food and good friends. :flower:

#1Fan, A week ago I tried to book Palo's. It showed me dates and times, but couldn't get to the next step. Finally I had a friend do it for me on her computer and it worked. During the last week I called DCL and they wouldn't do it for me. I called a few times and no one could help me. Maybe the person you spoke to is wrong and there is still more seating....

I finally found you guys!!!! Thanks to winotracy's newsletter I found the new thread that was started.

Thanks to the moderators for allowing us to chat once again. I have missed you guys! :grouphug:

Our Family Reunion in WDW was a Jerry Springer FIASCO! I am ready for a REAL vacation. 2 weeks with not much to do but eat, sleep and DISmeet (can't wait). I have to go back to page one and start catching up!

WAHOO ! Our cabin is on the starboard side :goodvibes But since I will be videotaping it -- I'll be running all over the ship. The pics from deck 3 were neat :cool1:

Our babies - 4 dogs (one handicapped) & 3 cats will be babysat by my neice & nephew - who are being bribed with extra gifts from DL & the cruise. So... if someone sees me in Mickey's Mates with 4 or 5 t-shirts -- they are for family :teeth:

The one time we took a family vacation (to CA for a wedding) we had a pet sitter. In our area they charge $ 15.00 a walk - per animal  Luckily she didn't charge us that much (since all 4 dogs have at least 4 walks a day) + the cats -- but it does add a lot to the cost of a vacation.

Welcome Hbg4 we're glad you're here. :disrocks:

dairyou, we are really lucky. We have a middle aged Doberman and if the 4 of us go on vacation together she stays with our vet. He has a 5 acre farm and she gets to run and play with his two dogs, they've known each other since puppy days. As for our cats, three, we have a super next door neighbor who is always happy to check on them and feed them. She has also been guilty of taking one or two to her house to play with her kids and their two pugs. So in our house vacation means something special to the whole family.

DisneyElf, we are in cabin 7010 because my DH figured out which side would be shadier. And besides we just like that area of the ship.

Estelle: We have a Doberman too! She is 5 but still acts like a puppy - so much energy. She's the 3rd Doberman we have had - my previous two males both died young of heart disease. :sad1:
We have such a house full of animals - gerbils, rabbits, fish, 2 cats - crazy I know! Thankfully my sister takes the dog to her house and then comes daily to "tend" to the zoo! I don't think I could find a house sitter for such a crazy house!

Luckily, we had Port side and took advantage of the afternoon shade from our Verandah. We also were in the left lane of the canal so we had an incredible up close view of the proceedings.

Hopefully you'll be blessed with the same clear skies that we had, but the sun is incredibly strong. Use SPF Tar when venturing outside. :sunny:

Welcome to all of our new friends. :grouphug:

#1 Fan I feel your pain. My high tea ressies have disappeared off the cruise site. I also had real problems with booking anything for Castaway, both the online and the phone staff told me there was nothing available.

I did e-mail my TA and she got the Castaway thing taken care of.
:cheer2: Tammy at DU is my hero :cheer2:

I will try doing battle with DCL about the missing high tea tomorrow. If not my plan is to be online at the 75 and 60 day mark to see if they open anything.

Okay, we're on the starboard side, 6636, so that is good. But now I am afraid to check the DCL site in case my dinner and brunch reservations have disappeared ! I can't believe that DCL wouldn't leave some open for those cruise people that don't frequent the DIS...Also, did anyone read the trip report which stated...as a rumor...that there was such a mess with the pins on the first repo that there wouldn't be pins for the second repo ?

i remember originally reading that they were going to be holding some spa and palo ressies back. So try on the ship and see what you get.

Also may cruisers were able to walk up and get palo

Regarding our pets, our neighbors were going to take care of our kitties and our mail while we were away, but they decided to go to Fiji instead at the same time. A friend offered to take care of them, but her brother has decided to get married around the same time out of state...we're batting 1000. I'm uncomfortable having strangers in my house while I'm away, highly rated or not, and I've never used a kennel, but may have to.

Our parakeet is going to Grandma's house. He'll stay at my sisters until my mom returns from California on the 21st. My sister has other birds and will have someone come to her house to feed them.

I ended up calling one of the numbers on the Disney Cruise website. Told them I was having Palo Ressie difficulties and was directed to another line. There are spaces available, she could tell me from her end. She said to try another computer, sometimes it is the server. :badpc: She was very informative. It was nice to know everything wasn't booked as the earlier phone person at Disney had told me. That in itself made me feel better. :flower:

Eye R.N. I thought you would like to know that she did tell me that they were having difficulties with the computer cancelling high tea ressies for some of the cruises. She said they were working on getting those ressies back and getting that fixed. But, I know as I felt today and yesterday, that when there are problems with the reservations it is very stressful. I was online or on the phone with someone for about 4 hours today!! :confused3

But, in the end....I did get dinner and brunch reservations so I can have a few moments of quiet time with my DH!! :cool1:

#1Fan, glad you got your reservations! Before I got a hold of my friend to place it for me I tried to go to the library, but they were closed!

No one should miss the chocolate souffle at Palo's!
