Bringing The Magic Home - 8/20/05

It is wonderful to hear that you will be ok. Keep up your strength, I'm sure you'll be working so hard the next few months that you'll need another cruise.

Hi Pam, Ted and I were happy to hear of your great news. Thanks so much for keeping us posted! When I get the time, I will email you some pics of you and Buster.

Great pics Tracy! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

In case you were curious about the storm we sailed through, here are a few links I found about Hurricane Hilary:

Here is an image of "our" hurricane:

If you click on the high resolution link, and then on the zoom icon, you can see the shoreline very clearly. I consulted a map of Mexico, and the Bahia Magdalena on the Baja peninsula is the northern boundary of the image (just east of center at the top), and it goes just south of Puerto Vallarta (about a third of the way down on the right side). If you follow the peninsula down, Cabo is just visible through the clouds. We passed it about 6:30am - ish. Since the image was captured at 1:45pm local time, we are somewhere in this image (though each pixel is 250 meters square, and the ship is about 300 meters long). Now there's a picture for your scrapbook!

also click on the wind swath button

and this one lists the details of where it was located at 2 am on the 22nd:

This map & imagery fascination must be a disease...I do it all day and then come home and do it some more!

BTW, I updated the map I made of our cruise to show our stop in Manzanillo. I would be happy to email it to anyone who is interested.

Wow DenverVal!

Thanks for doing your homework! That's a great image! I guess that explains the sounds that the Magic was making that morning. I can still picture the swells off of 4th deck. Mother nature can really pack a punch.

Since we vacationed after the cruise - I just got home & am looking for the thread that was LIVE from the Magic during our cruise so I can read it.
I had such a great time and now want to cruise everyday!!!
Thanks for your help,
Joyce

Your pictures were great, Tracy. Thanks! Also thanks to Val. Those maps are awesome.

Cindy

Incredible Photos, Val!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

Could begging and pleading convince you to mail me a CD of them?????

Arlene

(BTW - would you believe we have only SEEN ours once; no sorting, printing, or posting yet!)

Wow DenverVal those were amazing pics! Your DDs are beautiful and your family looked great on pirate night! :cool1:

Although I didn't meet you on the cruise, I enjoyed your pics a lot DenverVal! Thanks for the break from reality!

I especially liked the pictures of Gatun off the front of the ship when it was getting dark. Your comment was very accurate, I WAS skipping parts of dinner that night to run out to 7th aft and take pictures. I'm almost dissapointed that I didn't just skip dinner period! Anyways, it was great to see what I was missing from the forward point of view. Wasn't it just the best trip ever?!

Anyone else having a tough time getting over the Repo? I'm going to have to do back-to-back 7-day cruises from now on. 14 days just can't be beat! :earsgirl:

Look everyone! A Brown ****ie!

If THIS doesn't bring back memories, I don't know what will! :rotfl2:

OMG!! Did you see that on Deck 9 by the pool? Good thing it wasn't a red one!

Yes, it was CLOSE to the pool! I did see some red ones too! Fortunately, I used spf 30 everyday, so I didn't have that problem. Poor Captain Tom, I don't know if I'll ever look at him the same again. Especially after Wilde and Hanes did their mock "report from the bridge" routine. I'm sure you all know what I mean.

Thanks! We had late seating, so I just stayed until it was all over, but I have a feeling Topsiders and room service were busy that night! I parked my myself near the bow from before we rounded that last bend and the Gatun locks came into view until we were past the lighted arrow on the other side (4 hours!). I wanted a time lapse of the experience. I took SO many more pictures than the ones I put in the slide show...over 800 that day! The joy (peril?) of having a 2gig memory card! DH and DD took pictures of the last lock from secret deck 7, so we have it from both ends. This trip was all about the canal for me. I loved it!

:rotfl2: DH and DD were playing bingo and Ian imitated the captain's remark just as the captain walked by, and poor Ian said something to the effect of "I'm so fired...."
