Bringing our own ECV – Battery?

I have been given so much conflicting information about
the best way to recharge, that I am totally confused!
We have too. The instruction book says to charge every night, but I think they assume the wheelchair would be out of power by then. The wheelchair tech (who we have known for about 8 years and trust) told me to not charge the battery every night and let it go down a bit. DD has had her wheelchair and original set of batteries for 3 years - although I do have to admit that she was scared to death to drive it for the first year, so it really only has 2 years use.

The specs on my scooter (Pride) say 5 hours or 20 miles. I've been in the parks for over 8 hous and have never had a problem, but mine shuts off after 2 minutes of not moving. The batteries are over 2 years old and I just charge them every night per instructions.
