I plan on taking some Miralax with me on vacation - just in case.

I have a big bottle that I can put into individual ziploc bags that would work best for me.

Is TSA going to have an issue with white powder-type substance in my luggage?

Would I just be better off buying the travel packs instead (which I hate to do as they are so expensive) to avoid any issues?

And one more question : Should I put them in my carry-on (if I did the individual ziploc bags) or checked luggage?

It should not be a problem in your carry-on bag. It's always possible it could prompt a hand check, but so can lots of things. The only stuff they generally are concerned with are liquids and gels, but technically OTC meds don't fall under the 3-1-1 limits so you're fine even then.

I was only worried about it being a powdery type substance and what they may think it could be.

If nobody thinks it could be an issue, then neato!

:)

If it were me, I'd keep it in the original container or get the travel sized, rather than make your own baggies. My poor hubbie gets stopped at every security check for something, sometimes they swipe his shoes, sometimes they're leery about his jar or prescription cream. Who knows what sets them off. :confused3. We just make bets about what he's getting stopped for... :lmao:

But you don't need to repackage powders into 3 ounces, so I'd keep it labeled. The last time, he was stopped and they tested an UNOPENED bottle of bath salts (holiday gift).

I've posted on here before about my experience with bath salts.:rotfl: I was doing carry on only and had a bag of bath salts in my carry on. I was told they had to search the bag and the TSA agent opened the bag of bath salts, smelled of them, put a little cloth on a wand and ran it through them, then finally picked up some and rubbed them between his gloved fingers and then smelled them again.:rotfl: I told him they were just bath salts and were labled as such. He was very rude and told me he wasn't sure they would be allowed He then called a supervisor over, who took one look at them, gave him a disgusted look, said they were fine, and to let me go. The first agent got very flustered, then rudely told me he was going to let it slide "this time", but I'd better not try to sneak anything like that through again.:confused3:rotfl::rotfl: What is funny is that after I got to my resort that day and unpacked, I found I had put a small bottle of cleansing oil, a small lip gloss, and a travel size mascara in my makeup bag that was lying directly underneath that bag of bath salts. He was so concerned about my 'legal' bath salts that he completely missed my 'illegal' liquids/gels.:rotfl::rotfl:

Don't worry - any medication doesn't have to be included in the 3 ounce rule.

I bring a lot of medicine when I travel, and it does make it easier if it's in its original container I think.

Also, you may have an extra carry on bag for any medical needs, including nebulizers and CPAP machines, and that does not count toward your carry on limit.

I also had a bunch of small bottles each with a white powder a few years back for my son; he was involved in a milk immunotherapy research study at Johns Hopkins at the time. The doctor in charge wrote a letter explaining what the bottles were, but the TSA never bothered with them.

Oh dear.

I traveled around with something that looked just like a bullet in the side mesh pocket of my backpack for awhile, and TSA never noticed at all. It was part of a keychain that had come unscrewed, and what's really sad about this is that the first flight I had it with me was on 9/18/01...they tweaked about my shoes that had metal in them, and about DH's pack of batteries, but not about the "bullet" or the 2 inch long hair pins (I had about 20 of them to hold up my hair) on my head.

Anyway, funny thing is...if you travel with such things now, be careful calling them by their name, as "bath salts" is now the name of a really nasty illegal drug!

Welcome to the crazy world in witch we fly. I had a explain in LAX back in 2007. Flying back from disneyland. I had bought a game that had wires in it. It was an operation game with a disney theme. Well anyway the agent paniced. My carry on was hand seached i was okay with that but they were rude and nasty. I also had many jars of jelie from knots berry farm. Of course they were unwraped. Then throwen back into my bag. Also they found my epie pen. When i tryed to tell what it the agent became agnery. I hope never to have something like that to happen again. I'm lucky i no longer have to carry an epie pen.
