I am thinking about bringing my own golf cart with us when we visit Fort Wilderness this fall. Does anyone know what, if any restrictions there are on bringing your own golf cart?

It has to have headlights to use it after dusk--saw security send someone back to their site for that.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

I didn't realize that people actual bought there own golf carts! then of course we buy ski doos and jet skis for both our seasons :)

Oh, yeah, lots of people bring their own carts! Some are really cool-looking--customized to the max!

That' so neat! I've only ever driven a cart once but I image if you live somewhere warm you would probably golf a lot and it would be really neat to spice it up. Hope we see some. . .and get some pictures then I can torment the guys back in the office who are golf addicts :)

I think a lot of people also use them in their neighborhoods. That's our hope, soon, to live in a neighborhood where we can use a NEV or golf cart to get around and use it at FW, too.

I was just looking at houses on Realtor.com. Those Orlando homes are sure going faster than mine! :sad2: Oh, well, it will happen......

We are planning on bringing our golf cart in November. I called Fort Wildnerness directly and they said there aren't any restrictions on golf carts. Ours is gas powered, not electric, so I wanted to make sure.

We are part of that group of people who have a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) that we use near home as well as bring it to Fort Wilderness and other campgrounds we venture off to.

Ours is licensed for the road. It is limited however to roads that have a posted speed limit of 35 mph. From what I have read nearly all states have similar laws. Its great to run to the store (a mile and a half or so) or the post office. I have even used it to pick up my son and nephew from sports practice after school. It sure beats firing up the SUV when gas is over $2.50 a gallon. For a couple of cents of electricity, I can do a lot of running around.

I have yet to commute to work with it. I only got it last June from the first owner who by coincidence used it for camping too. In order to go to work, I would have to take a longer route to avoid major roads plus I need a place to plug it in at work if needed. Its supposed to get about 25 +/- miles to a charge which would easily get me to and from work each day. I will try it this summer when the weather is nice.

Anyway its a fun little car and its nice to drive along in silence without the revving of an engine.

Better double check on the gas powered cart. That always used to be forbidden. The only ones with gas carts were the grounds keepers. :moped:

Don't know about the official policy but there were several of them there last week. Most of the jacked up off road looking ones were gas. No one seemed to pay much attention to gas v elec.

Every time we go to FW there is usually one if not more real noisy gas carts being driven around. Call me a sound policeman but personally I think these noisy carts should be banned from FW.

Hi etblank, welcome to the boards. About time! :wave2:

Between the NOISEY buses, large diesel trucks and diesel-powered motorhomes, what's the harm in a gas powered golf cart? Just one more engine making a pass thru the campground.

I'm not complaining about the noise, 'cause I'm one of those with the loud diesel truck and a gas powered golf cart. :moped: :moped:

So what do you do if you get different answers from different CM's? I specifically told them it was gas powered, and they even told me about the gas station before the MK parking lot.

Lewski...will you check for me during your visit?? :rolleyes1

You read my mind!!!! Of course I will be one of the ones who has dogs that people will complain about too! Oh well. :rotfl:

etblank,
Oh, I've got dogs also. We have a Doberman and a Pomerian that travel with us everywhere.
We have been there 5 times in the last year and there was always gas powered golf carts running around. Plus now you also have those scooters that make that whinning noise as the kids drive those around. Seriously, I do not believe there is a problem with taking gas powered carts. Times are changing and more people own their own now.
You called and got the "okay" so take it and have fun!!! :cool1: :cool1:
