We have always brought in a few bottles of water and some basic snacks (crackers, combos, etc.) into Disney parks but didn't know if this was allowed at Universal.

Can and Universal vets advise?

THANKS!

I'm pretty sure you can..but not coolers. I saw people eating stuff they obviously brought with them like sandwiches and such. As long as you bring stuff in backpacks and NOT coolers you should be ok.

Do Universal search your bags like Disney do?

Yes. Let me put it this way-Hard Cooler will not make it in. A couple of sandwiches wrapped up and put in a backpack with some water-no problem.

Thanks Damo, just wondered whether we would be held up in our rush to get on all the rides (except Dr Doom :) ).

How about a 12-pack soft cooler? We have always brought this into WDW in our stroller (full of water, some soda, snacks).

I've seen lots of soft coolers. I doubt you'll have a problem.

we were there in june & they were searching bags & not allowing outside food or drinks in. we went to a bench & hid my nephews (12 & 9) crackers & fruitsnacks in an almost invisible pocket in backpack & mom put her Coke bottle (filled with water) in her pocket. they never said a word.

when i was there in jan. they had put up signs from the parking area all the way to the parks about no food or drink could be brought in.

They still have up the signs but I've never seen it enforced before and I'm at the parks several times a week. The only thing I've seen them enforce is alcoholic beverages. If they do enforce the no food or water on a day you are going, just let them know that you need to bring in food for a medical need like: diabetes or low blood sugar. If you do bring in food though, please clean up after yourself and don't take up tables at the eating establishments. Find a quiet bench to eat and throw away your trash.

I could easily believe that Universal would not allow food/drinks brought into the park but that WDW would. We went to both WDW and Unviersal last November and I was very disappointed with Universal Park's employees/atmosphere. It definitely IS NOT the friendly WDW! WDW definitely seems more family oriented! What can it hurt for a family who has spent plenty $$ on tickets to bring in a bottle of water, snacks for the kiddos, etc? In November when we were there and walked through City Park to attend the other park, there was a big beer tasting event and the people tasting had more than a "taste".
I don't care if we go back to Universal again!

Did you not read the replies? I am at Universal 4 or 5 times a week and have never, ever seen someone who wasn't allowed to bring in food or drinks. Does that mean it never happens? No but that it is not common. People have posted on the DisBoard about how they weren't allowed to bring in food or drink at WDW also. But then again, it is not common.

Unfortunately for you, data is not the plural of anecdote. Many here on this board have had some not so nice interactions with Disney CMs. That doesn't cause most of us to label all of Disney as unfriendly. You posted in the Universal forum and should assume that most of us love Universal here. Obviously our experinces with employees at Universal has been vastly different than yours.

Ever been to Epcot's food and wine festival? Try it some time for an eye opening experience. Have you ever been to Pleasure Island which is the equivalant of CityWalk? 'Nuff said.

I am sorry you feel that way but I would personally never form an opinion after one visit. My first visit to WDW was a complete disaster. Luckily, we went back and gave it another try. Now we love it.

Yes, but they aren't searching for food. ;)

We've always brought frozen bottles of Gatorade into the parks without any problems. We bought one liter bottles with a thermal insulated case around them at Wal-Mart and just carry them on our shoulders. I've had granola bars in my purse or in my husband's fanny pack and never had any problems.
