Our last cruise we didn't take full advantage of the cheap alcohol prices because I thought that paying duty on extra would make it not worth it. Well this time I want to bring home extra and I'm wondering what is the best way to get it home. Do most people put it in checked luggage or carry it on the plane.

I would not put it into checked luggage. I leaned my lesson on a trip to the US Virgin Islands. I put a bottle of 151 rum in my suitcase after wrapping it carefully. Upon getting home while at the airport, you could smell my luggage getting off the plane before you could see it. The bottle broke and most of my clothing smelled like I had a great time.

Carry it on the plane and place it in the overhead.

Before 9/11, I would carry my booze in the checked luggage, using dirty clothers to protect the bottles.

We sailed the Magic on 1/25, I packed my booze in our carry on. We had no problems.

Hmmm, surprising the bottle broke. I brought wine TO the ship - I bought the bubble wrap, wrapped the bottle being careful to wrap extra around the neck and stuck it upright with the bottom of the bottle 'sitting' at the bottom of my suitcase (rollers on bottom). Three bottles made it safely. If you know you're coming home with bottles buy the bubble wrap at home (Target, Staples, etc.) and pack it in your suitcase. It weighs next to nothing.

Just a suggestion.

Bubble wrap, what a great idea. I have a box w/ all old packing materials. I never thought to bring it on vacation...ha ha!!
Thanks for the great tip!:smooth:
