hi all. Interested in possibly buying beer in caymans during stop. Is there a limit? Are there any troubles with customs when back in the states?

Would love to hear your experience please.

Also, anyone done the brewery there on your own ? Interested in transportation costs there and then beach...back to boat.

As mentioned, it’s one 6-pack per adult 21+ per port. That’s to hring onboard for consumption during the cruise. If you purchase more with intent to take it home, they’ll hold it for you until the end of the cruise, same as hard liquor. As for Customs, I believe there are limits depending on the port where purchased.

Enjoy your cruise!

1) can you take 6 loose cans?
2) can you take spiked seltzer? It says it’s “beer” on the case

What is the limit on wine?

2-750ml bottles per person.

BUT it is that OR beer. One person cannot mix and match. If there are 2 of you, 1 could bring the wine and 1 the beer if you wanted both.

Hi, see the post from last week, DH and I have done the brewery on our own. Lots of fun. We buy beer at every port and bring it home. No issue with customs getting off the ship. We actually come off with more than we brought on.

It's been a few years since I sailed to Grand Cayman on DCL, but I recall there being some unique alcohol restrictions there. The island restriction was that spirits had to be delivered from the shop to the ship, but then DCL had a policy that the ship did not accept deliveries.

Has that changed, or does it not apply to beer/wine?

The law is that alcohol must be delivered directly to the ship from the store for those on cruises. Many times what seems to happen is that the store will hand carry the purchase to the port, and hand it through the fence to the purchaser after they've gone through the port security to board the ship.

Now, it doesn't always happen that way. Some shops will abide by the law.

We have only ever purchased beer on Grand Cayman. We carried it back to the boat ourselves and took it to the room. We purchased beer from the Duty Free shop at least 3-4 times over the last 2 years and brought it back on the tender with us. This past trip we purchased from the Duty free and from the brewery. We also did not exceed our limit.

My wife and I did B2B this fall. Quebec -> NYC followed by the first Bermuda cruise from NYC. One of out daughters and her family were joining us for the Bermuda cruise. She sent us a text asking whether they could bring spiked seltzer. I asked at guest services. The CM wasn't sure and went into the office to check. She eventually came back out and said it was OK. When my daughter arrived at the port, they had them go to the alcohol collection desk. They looked at the seltzer then let them carry it onboard.

I'm glad someone asked about the spiked seltzer water as I had been debating on bringing that myself as you are correct, it's sold in the beer section of stores that won't sell liquor. At this time I've decided on 2 wines while my DH will bring on 6 beers.
Regarding rules of alcohol @Caymans....I too had read the unusual requirements around the alcohol being sent to the port for you but I wonder if that's for items that aren't "beer". I don't recall it specifying but was aware of it. It would be horrible to spend the money, have them try to take it for you and to find out the boat won't accept....UGH.

It's been that way every time I have been. I saw some people arguing with DCL personnel because they had purchased alcohol and was told it was being delivered to the ship but the crew member told them that they (i.e., DCL) wouldn't take delivery of it and that they (i.e., the purchasers) couldn't receive delivery of it themselves. I didn't see anyone taking delivery through the fence after security - not saying it didn't happen but I'd be very leery of buying something and hoping that they'd do this or that it would be allowed. I don't know if there's any exceptions for beer or low-content alcohol, but I would be checking that out first. I think there was some mention of it in the Navigator the next time we went.
