bringing a blanket for nighttime shows

I see that people bring a blanket to mark their territory on the ground while waiting for Fantasmic! Does this work for WOC, too? It's just DBF and I, so I was thinking a beach towel would suffice. Any specific tips or customs about holding space like this?

We have Hydroguy's maps printed out and plan to arrive early to both shows.

It doesn't work quite the same way for World of Color. For Fantasmic! people lay out their blanket hours before the show to save the spot. For World of Color they don't let you into the show area until I believe an hour before the show (maybe even less if I recall correctly). I suppose if you wanted you could bring the towel and sit on it while you're waiting for the show to start, but it won't give you any type of advantage as far as staking out a spot and people will be standing right up against you while you're sitting.

I used a beach towel to sit for fantasmic. You can't leave it unattended though to save your spot, someone has to be with your belongings.

I would also like to point out that the area you see the blankets at F! are for that purpose, sitting. At WOC there is no area for just sitting.

Have a magical time!

I agree that it's much more common for folks to put down blankets for Fantasmic!. I haven't seen very many blankets/towels put down for WoC. I truth, I haven't seen very many people sitting on the ground waiting for WoC.

WOC is likE fireworks, you can sit on the ground, but the CMs will ask you to stand 15-20 minutes before the show. Plus, as PP said, other guests will stand right next to wear you're sitting, so sitting on a folded towel is probably better if you're looking for a little padding.

If you want to sit at WoC, the best bet is to....pretend like you just broke your hip and bring one of those walkers with a fold down seat on it. Otherwise, be prepared to stand for about 2 straight hours: At least 45 minutes waiting to get into the waiting area, 45 minutes standing in your spot, and another 30 for the show. Not the best planning on Disney's part for this attraction.

I have not seen folks out down blankets and reserve space waiting for WoC like they do for fireworks (close to the castle/hub) or Fantasmic. When I've been there the waiting area has been pretty packed/full, so there is no space to spread out a towel/blanket. It sounds like you have been there when it was possible, so perhaps it varies by night.

I have considered one of those canes with a seat.

But really I need a good quality periscope.
With a good periscope I can use a viewing strategy that is way less stressful.
I get a fast pass.
I wait until only about 10 minutes before the show, and then I use my fast pass to enter (hopefully after most others have already entered).
Then I just stand (or sit) comfortably in the back.

So I wonder what the best viewing spot is, if one has a periscope?
Maybe there is an ideal spot that is not even in the set up viewing area.

No, I meant fold up the towel to the size of your own butt. I have no problem sitting on the ground for a half hour waiting for fireworks or WOC, but others are going to stand within 8-10 inches on all sides of me and I'll be looking at their legs. That doesn't bother me. I wouldn't have the nerve to even attempt to put a towel down to save space, and if I did, I wouldn't expect others to respect that. There have been times where I had a friend off buying snacks, and to keep people from crowding in I'll sort of put my bag on the ground and make myself take up more space. For a few minutes. I've seen these shows enough times to know that everyone will condense to shoulder to shoulder when the shows start. Even when the parks aren't crowded, the viewing areas seem tight.

When we saw WOC last Nov, we put a blanket down for the kids to sit on while we waited. DH I stood at the back of end of it (they were against the rail - reserved dining section). We picked it up prior to the show and they stood, but it worked well for the waiting. We of course weren't able to put it down until we let into the section.

If you have a periscope maybe you can sneak into the water when no one is looking and watch the show REALLY close! A snorkel would come in handy too! ;)

So a towel for us to sit on while waiting and maybe even during Fantasmic, but WoC is a standing up thing, while waiting and during the show. I had no clue that some sat on blankets while waiting for fireworks. Do they even do that during the MHP fireworks?

We got a curbside seat for the afternoon parade last December. Somewhere along the line someone stopped by next to us and spread out a rug. Then left. For 30-45 minutes they just left it there while they went off to play. A few minutes before the parade was due to start, they showed up and claimed their curbside spot. If I didn't have a curbside spot already, I would have been mighty tempted to fold it up and sit there myself.

When we went last September I saved space for our family with a beach towel because DH came later with the kids. They were 1 and 3 at the time, so waiting that long was not an option for them. I was one of the first people into the viewing area and I put my folded towel against the rail and sat with my legs stretched out, reading until they came. It worked out really well for us and nearly everyone else was sitting while waiting too.

is it just me wondering why anyone would think it's ok to bring a blanket to mark your spot hours in advance while you go off to play! :/ I'm used to WDW and if I want to see a parade or whatever going and sitting myself 30-45 mins in advance. In DLP we did this and people showed up at the parade time and literally shoved us off the footpath to try take our spot! I just think all this behaviour is a little rude like. Maybe it's just me :confused3

It is not proper etiquette at DLR or WDW to leave a blanket unattended to hold your spot. Anyone who does this should expect the blanket to be pushed to the side.

On the other hand at Tokyo Disney Resort this is entirely proper etiquette. Everyone respects other people's blankets/spots. Different culture.
