bring your own bikes to Hilton Head?

is the path really a decent size to bring them??

Yes. The bike paths are excellent and safe also for kids that may ride with you. I would weigh whether the savings is worth it to you to carry your own. We always rent as the bikes at the resort are good enough for our needs, and for a family are reasonably priced. We are here at Wilderness Lodge and my daughter rented a bike yesterday - it was 18 a day and you only get it for 9-6 that day. At HH it is something like 25 for length of stay.

You can ride all over the island pretty much on bike paths if you feel the need to leave the resort. <g>

HHI is very bike friendly, you can ride pretty much all over the place. If you are driving I would recommend bringing your bikes if you can! :thumbsup2

We considered bringing our bikes but as the op said, HHI bike rentals are very reasonable and convenient.

I was more than pleased with our decision, because we spent alot of time riding on the beach and our rental bikes got pretty dirty with sand and salt water everywhere.

Also, if we had any issues like chains coming off, tires, etc. we just traded it in for a new one and kept on rolling:wizard:

Loved riding bikes at HHI!! I hadnt rode a bike in years!:rotfl:

We brought the kids bikes one year when we still had a truck.

Like the others, we now just rent them from the resort or the local place that they recommend. We all love to bike ride while there!

thanks for all the replies...We love riding our bikes especially new areas where we have never been before!!

Enjoy, HHI is such a great bike riding place!! We also brought ours the first summer, but now also just rent then there.

We've done both- brought out own bikes down and last year we decided to just rent the bikes there. Personally unless you are very budget conscious I would recommend just renting them-very reasonable. In addition as others have said, the bikes get dirty, sandy, and salty. It was certainly nice this year not needing to clean our bikes when we returned from vacation.

The salt water mist ruined our bikes this December. I would suggest that you consider renting or bringing old junky bikes.

We took our bikes last year and had trouble with them starting to rust just within a few days. Nothing major, but still in some small areas. I will rent them next time if we decide we want them.

Could someone give me info about the bike rentals...how much? Are helmets included?? Do they have bikes with baby seats on the back???

THANKS!

Curious about this as well. My dd's are 3 and 5, not crazy about them riding back and forth to the beach. I will bring their bikes for puttering about the resort but I'm not to excited about them riding to the beach on their own.

or from a local rental company? Going next month and hope to rent for all 7 of us.

We usually bring our own bikes with us but we make sure that we hose them down if we ride on the beach. This past spring break we rode them to Coligny Plaza for a nice outing. We have not rented before but I think they might be one speed beach cruisers. We have hybrids with multiple speeds which are great on the bike path and we sometimes take them to Pickney Island. The price is certainly great on the rentals at Disney but we just prefer our own bikes,

Bikes are very popular during the busy season, so you may want to reserve thru a private company company and have them delivered and picked up from the resort. There are many private companies and most are very reasonable and drop/pick is included in price.

Disney's bikes are not the greatest and they have run out. We were there Mem. Day weekend and the Disney bikes were sold out and there was not much to choose from the rental company down the street.

We just got back from a fantastic week at HHI. We rented bikes for the length of stay for $25 each. The rental includes helmets, baskets and bike locks. I saw Disney bikes at the resort that had kid seats on the back. Don't know if those cost extra.

Also saw "bikes built for two" but not Disney bikes so if you'd like to do that I think you have to go with an outside company. Don't know this for sure so check into it with the resort first.
