We're leaving tomorrow (woo hoo!!) so I'm in the middle of packing a mountain of stuff (bringing 3 kids). Was wondering, how many of you bring video cameras in addition to your regular cameras?

We have a nice digital still camera that takes a few seconds of video here and there but I don't use it (too grainy). If I want great video, I grab my small video camera.

Both of these cameras are small and can fit ino a fairly small bag, but of course, it would be easier to just bring our still camera....

Should we bring the video one or not? Anyone not bring one and regret it later??

Thanks!!

Annabelle

PS: First time to Disney as a family of 5 and probably won't get back for a few years.

This is totally a personal decision. A lot of people seem to spend their entire trip looking through the viewfinder of their camcorder, and they seem happy about that.

My family took the camcorder on our first few trips and ended up taking less than an hour of footage each time. There's just so much to see and do that we only recorded a bit. Now we only take it if we are doing something special like the Christmas or Halloween parties.

We tape the shows & parades to enjoy at home. The kids ask to watch them all the time.

One year in 2000 when our boys were 18months and 3, we brought the video camera and decided it was a pain. We took it to MK one day and then left it in the room the rest of the week. It just seemed like a pain with the film camera and then all the other stuff - sun screen, waterbottles, snacks, tickets, money, etc... Also, when the 4 of us went on rides it was something else to hang on to.

When we went this last time, we just brought the film camera and it worked much better. Just my opinion.

i eventually would regret if i didn't bring both my video and still cam.

still pictures just don't do the vacation justice.

Camcorders are so small these days, you can just put em in your pocket, and forget that its there. but always have it when you need it.

I have videos of my Disney Trips in the past and watch them all the time leading up to the next trip.

Even though you may not think it's worth bringing it, take it anyway because you might regret not bringing it.

I stopped taking the vid camera......by the end of the day I swear it weighs 100 pounds. Also I found myself seeing everything through the eye of the camera.

I have relatives who taped every moment of their Dis trip....and FORCE you to watch it, hours & hours & hours of low lighted muffled noises!

We're one of those families who opt not to take the video cam - until our last trip! We didn't carry it 24/7, but we did carry it around some. I am so glad we did! We pulled our tape out the other night to watch it to get psyched for our October trip. It was so much fun to watch it and relive those magical moments! We'll do it again this trip. We'll leave the bag behind and just carry the digicam w/strap. One of the neatest things we captured on film was Tinkerbell's flight!

well, in July I am going with my dad and step mom. My real mom hasnt been to WDW since i was around 6 (now 18) so I plan on video taping EVERYTHING (almost) so I can show her my trip.

We just got back from WDW and my DH taped over 3 hours worth of video on our camcorder! :earboy2:

We had just bought a new small one (not much bigger than a camera), and were able to fit it and our camera in a small, over the shoulder, case. We carried it everyday, and it never seemed too heavy.

We also took almost 300 pictures! It was our first family trip, :cool1: can you tell?

We brought ours, granted, we're in the dark ages and still have the VHS-C - haven't upgraded to digital yet! But...between the rain that went on almost daily and all the carrying of baby, we got a whopping two minutes of video. It was too hard to do this time! I am hoping maybe a trip in the future when we don't have two strollers, a baby carrier, the rain cover for the stroller, a diaper backpack and a camera around my neck that we might be able to do a better job with the video camera!!!! At least we got ten rolls of film and the photopass pictures. :)

LOL! Our first trip to WDW two years ago had us lugging the VHS camera around with us. That trip really made us appreciate our new smaller camera before our cruise last year. DH insisted that we take it with us in case the new one didn't work but it stayed in the the room all of the time. :)

Always take both, but they're both pretty small and not very heavy. Bought a bag that will fit both nicely. Although I have alternated between the 2 on different days.

I have a small mini-DV camcorder that is almost "pocketable" and takes very good quality 2 Megapixel still pix as well. Would not go to Mickey's World without it.

We are a family of 5 too. :cool1: We always bring both the video camera and the digital still camera. We usually choose to bring the video camera with us on specific days. For example, to a special character meal, or on one of our favorite rides (Small World, Winnie The Pooh). When we get home the kids love to watch snippets of their time in Disney, but we don't spend the whole trip looking through the viewfinder.

Actually, in April we filmed quite a bit of them exploring the Grand Ceremonial House at the Polynesian, and walking on the beautiful walkways between the volcano pool and our room. It helps to bring back all of those happy feelings of being in such a beautiful place! :flower:
