Hey all,
Just in the planning stages for our trip in Jan 2008. We have the last two weeks reserved in a full hook-up site........hopefully the request for our favorite site........1334........is available! We are thinking of bringing down our own golf cart this time, instead of renting one for 2 weeks. BUT.........it is gas powered. It is a newer/modern Yamaha 4 cycle and very quiet cart for a gas powered cart. It is unclear if it will be allowed or not.
I called FW, and they said that it "may" be O.K. if it is quiet, no one will bother us, as some people bring there own gas carts. I know every time we go to the Fort, I see quite a few gas carts running around. Does FW just look the other way, or is it allowed?
Has anyone very recently seen gas carts running around the Fort, or brought your own with no trouble???
I am NOT trying to start a debate.......I am just wondering if I should keep planning on bringing our cart down. It will be a small pita towing it down from PA. behind a 36' A class, if we wont be able to use it!

Thanks for any input.......Syndrome

We saw some gas powered carts and OTHER ATV type vehicles (:sad2: ) on our trip in August. I think they just look the other way. I am not a fan of the gas powered ones myself due to the noise and smell. However, if yours is a four cycle and quiet, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ya I think I would follow thru with what they told you at FW. I would just make sure its quite. Have fun!

I would definitely risk it. Yes, it's a hassle towing it down there but you'll be there two weeks. If you don't take it, you'll be kicking yourself after the first day.

By the way, we'll be there on Jan. 26. It's a great time to go but don't don't tell anyone. We have to keep the crowds low.:thumbsup2

When we were looking to buy a cart I called FW because that is the main place it would get used. I was told that they discourage Gas carts but, that they were allowed. A couple of reasons that were given :
1) They do not sell Fuel inside FW and
2) You are not allowed to drive your cart off FW grounds to go fill up.
You may be able to ask 5 CM's and get 5 different answers but, this is the one we got.I was initially transfered to the bike barn for my question but they were closed, So someone at the front desk answerd for them.:confused3
We decided on electric just to be on the safe side. I didn't want to buy a gasser and then next year they say NO.

Yes you totally have to bring it! We see gas carts ALL THE TIME! What do you have to lose? One out of every 5 personal carts we see at the Fort is gas. Renting the carts there can be expensive. You just need to think about how much more in fuel it will cost to tow it. Anyway, have a great trip!

The maintance carts at FW are gas
As long as yours is not loud or smoking. BRING IT!
it's cheeper to tow the golf car down and rent a car than it is to rent a golf cart.

On the "allowed/not allowed" list that FW provides at check-in, gas carts are specifically stated "allowed". The larger UTV's are stated "check with CM to see if they are permitted". You can bring your gas cart. I personally wish they weren't allowed because they are more noisy but, with all the "oversized knobby tires" and golf cart radios playing loudly, I don't see it as anything worse. So bring it and enjoy the campground.

Did I forget to say BRING IT...oops :drive:

Just a note for anyone who has not yet purchased a cart but is considering it, almost all private campgrounds, that allow privately owned golf carts, allow ONLY electric carts.

We have also seen several gas carts there. We have our own electric cart and bring it every trip. I would love to get a gas one.

Thanks for all the great help.
I would love to see a copy of ..... "allowed/not allowed" list that FW provides at check-in. If anyone has it ,please post a picture of it,to put my mind at ease. I am just nervous that if we go through the trouble of bringing our gas cart down, that we will be allowed to use it. It would make me nuts if they say we couldnt use it, while we rent one for 2 weeks, ours will be in the trailer in the FW parking lot!
I think we are going bring it now..........seems a pretty safe bet that we will be able to use it.
Thanks for all the replies..........keep them coming!

Just got back from the Fort on Monday and we saw (and heard!) many gas powered golf carts. I just checked the printed material we received at check in and it states the following:

Large, noisy, or utiility type vehicles may not be allowed. See a Recreation Manger for approval before use.

Not sure if the Recreation Manager is "approving" or what because during Labor Day weekend, MANY large, nosiy "golf carts" were on the roads.

I quiet it down for the campground Harley cart has a big block and the ST is a 36v sparkie. Here is a couple of pics of my carts just finished the solid black one.
