I am going on a royal caribbean cruise but figure I would ask here. I want to bring a 12 pack of soda with me on cruise. Anyone ever try "smuggling" soda before?

My Mom smuggled a bottle of champagne in her luggage. As for bringing liquor/soft drinks aboard I do know that when we were in Grand Cayman last year all liquor being brought back aboard was confiscated. We were waiting for a tender and saw crew members taking bottles, writing down the passenger's name and cabin # and telling them they would get it back the last night of the cruise. I do not know about soft drinks though. HTH

that's what I love about DCL - smuggling not necessary you can blatantly bring your soda & alcohol onboard :)

Bringing sodas or bottled water should not be a problem. Most cruise lines have no policy against this - I even know of someone who checked an entire case of bottled water for his checked luggage (just stuck a luggage tag to it) and it was waiting for him when he got on board. Alcoholic beverages, however, are another matter. As TootyJane says, most (other than Disney I believe) will confiscate it and return it to you when you disembark.

Let me know how you like Royal Carribean. We are planning on Norwegian for our next trip followed by an April 2005 Disney Magic trip and we were thinking the next one would be Royal Carribean - especially since they now sail out of NJ.

Have a great trip!

any idea how to get a 12 pack of cokes from houston to the ship? we will be flying in that morning. i am concerned about just putting a luggage tag on it; might not make it there!! LOL!! thanks for the help.

Depends how early you get into MCO and what transfers you have arrainged. With Dis transfers you go straight from MCO to your bus then straight to port. No time for grocery stop. If you plan to go with a car service, you can request a stop. If, however you arrive to port, there is time, I guess you could take a taxi to a store nearby and get back in time to board. Hope this helps.

WE just sailed on Royal Caribbean over Memorial Weekend. WE took a 6 pack of coke and had no problems taking it on board. There were lots of people taking bags of snacks and sodas through the terminal. However. You are not allowed to take alcohol on board, they had several bottles that they had confiscated.

Just curious, when are you sailing? We are from TX, too (McAllen area~Rio Grande Valley) & will be on the Sept 19th Wonder. Expensive to fly from Houston? We are looking at 334.00 pp (X3). It would've been less expensive for us had we not moved back "home" from the DFW area last spring...............

Let me know if you manage to make it onboard with that 12-pack as I too am a coke-a-holic & would prefer to bring my own to keep in the room:wave:

Cash and I took on the cruise the eight 20-oz. bottles of Pepsi and ten bottles of water that were left over from the first land part of our land/land/land/sea/land vacation last month. Seeing your question brought to mind how I did it and what I would do differently next time...I took an extra canvas bag and, because my first land stop was a condo, was able to grocery shop at a Publix market nearby and stick the drinks in it......Then hauled the week's remainders around for the rest of the vacation...Cash and I drank all his water but I came home with two bottles of Pepsi left over and I was gone for almost a month... DCL serves coke, easy to come by on board. The stateroom coolers are the pits for cooling sodas to that peak of refreshment temperature. I never found it as convenient to rush back to the stateroom for a drink when refreshments were available where I was on deck. I spent nearly zero time drinking in my stateroom, including time on the BAV (sign of a healthy mind). Next time, except for the water, I don't think I'll bother. As for flying with it...If you can't swing a grocery stop or bribe a fellow cruiser to pick some up for you on their way, just double wrap it all in plastic and stick it in your luggage....I managed to check a 20# bag of dog food without having security arrest me...

Lynda, I just wanted to say what a beautiful dog Cash is. I have a yellow lab, Dixie. Is he a lab and if you don't mind me asking, what type of assistance does he provide? It always amazes me how smart they are and wish I could get ours to training, just so she won't jump on the counters to steal food!!:p Love her to death though.
