Bring My Own ECV or Not?

We are going to do a land & sea trip next May.. I can't decide if I should bring my ECV along.. I know I will need it on the land portion of our trip, But what about on the ship? Will it be more trouble that it's worth on board?
Where will It fit in our stateroom? How much walking will I be doing on the ship? Will I be able to use it at the ports? We are doing a 3 night cruise. Will it be a hassle getting it on & off the plane, Buses, Etc?
Should I just rent one for the land portion?
Any ideas?

Deb

It depends on your level of need, your stamina, and/or how mobile you are without it. I absolutely need mine on board because there's no way I can walk from one end of the ship to the other.

Well, not more trouble than it's worth if you need it to get around! :) But it can and will be somewhat of a hassle. The biggest problem I have is using the elevators. Other passengers are often not willing to give me room to enter/exit and more often than not will attempt to walk right in front of me as if they don't even know I'm there. I can't count the number of times we've arrived at an elevator, pushed the call button and waited. By the time the elevator arrives a small crowd has gathered and a number of these people think they are just going to walk in front of me and comandeer the elevator. Fortunately they can't get past my VERY large husband who has no problem telling them we were here first and no one is getting on before I do!

There is also a good chance that you will very often have to wait for an elevator that is empty enough for you ECV to fit.

I'm pretty sure it will. We've had some really small cabins but be aware that you may have to partially disassemble it to get it through the doorway (assuming you don't have an accessible stateroom).

That will be entirely up to you. We're usually out and about a lot, from one end of the ship to the other. It can be quite of a hike from your stateroom to the dining room to the show lounge to the pool to the spa etc.

Will I be able to use it at the ports? Deb
Maybe. If the ship docks in your port of call-yes. If the ship tenders-no.

Plane-no
Buses-Disney buses-sometimes a little
Public/tour buses-I've been places where there was no accessibility so ask if your booking a tour.

Deb

I've thought of doing this but I'm so much more comfortable using my own ECV. It's smaller, faster, cheaper.

Although I have never been on a Disney Cruise, I have been on quite a few others. Bring your ECV--the ships are huge! Although not equivalent to all the walking you'll do at WDW, you'll do a bunch!

Hi Deb and :welcome: back; we've sort of missed you.

Post #13 in the disABILITIES FAQs deals with DCL (but is still a work in progress); there are a few links there already that might assist you.
