I know that you cannot pack food in your suitcases anymore. Can we bring food snacks in a duffle bag as out carry on. I have a soft side cooler which I wanted to take with us for the room, I was thinking of using it for my carry on fille with snacks for the parks and room. Does anyone know if they allow this?

You can pack food in your checked luggage, there is nothing prohibiting it. You can also carry it on as one of your carryons.

Megansmon - just wanted to make sure I understood, you only put snack food in you carry on bag and this was ok.

We have taken sandwiches, chips, & canned sodas in our carry on bags without any problem.

We've packed all sorts of food & juice (including juice boxes & juice in soda type cans) without any problem in our checked luggage.

There's no rule against packing food, simply they are warning that it might cause them to have to more thoroughly search your luggage. As long as you aren't hiding anything more dangerous than a box of Wheaties, do'nt worry about it :)

Before you lug out the jumbo suitcase and fill it with goodies, go to your airlines website and check out the baggage policy. Many of the airlines have begun to restrict bags based on size and weight. I know Delta has a 60 lbs max on domestic flights. After 60 lbs you pay $25.00 and it goes up from there. Any savings on food will be lost.

It is actually only 50# and 51-70# pays 25.00 71-100# pays 80.00 each. Carry ons, 40# limit.

I fly internationally and you can pack food in checked luggage, but you might not be able to take certain foods, fruits and vegetables, into USA or other countries. You can always take food within the USA. But do check weight restrictions, some airlines will not even allow you to pay for overweight, it just won't go.

This is true--you can NOT bring ANY fesh fruits, vegetables, or plants into the State of Florida.

Why not mail a bix to yourself before you arrive?
Have the box arrive 2 -3 days before you. Write on the
box your name, registered address, your arrvial date at the
resort and your ressie # if you wish. Note on the box to
please hold till your arrival.

I have sent a box to the Dolphin and CR with out any problems.
I mail cereal, cookies, GUM, fruit snacks (gummies), tuna,
small mayo in plastic container, a sharp metal knife and can opener I plan to ditch at the end of our stay, plastic bowls and spoons.

We do a food shop on the way to the resort and buy a throw
away foam cooler and some other food items (fruit, donuts, chips).

We have always had breakfast and 2 dinners (tuna) in the
room. We buy milk at the resort the night before and keep in
cold in the foam cooler with ice.

At the Dolphin, Tubbies sells milk by the quart.
At the CR, Fantasia also sold milk by the quart.
I assume all resorts sell milk by the quart in their
eatery or gift shop.

We do attend one special character breakfast, one of the dinner shows (did HDD and Spirit of Aloha) and lunches in sit-down restaurants. Dinners are usually burgers, chicken or pizza.
Lunches out are less expensive.

On the side - we budget $150/day for food.
That is a DH, DW, DS (age 11) and DD (age 8).
Some days cost more, some days less. It works out
at the end of the week.

Good Luck and try the US Mail. ;)

I also think some of these items are banned from entering Arizona too.

We flew out 7/15 and I packed food in my bags--salty snacks, packs of cheese and peanut butter crackers, small individual packs of cookies, crispums and goldfish. We put chocoloate in our carry ons, as I have heard this is one of the foods that triggers the machines. We also checked a soft sided cooler that I packed a variety box of cereals in. Upon arrival, I looked through everything and there was no note that they had been inspected.

Tiffany TC picked us up and we shopped at Publix for milk, juice, yogurt, ice, etc. I packed two sizes of zip lock bags and changed ice in the cooler. It worked out well and saved a lot of money!

I just got off the phone with an American Airlines rep and she told me that you can pack snack in both your carry on and check in bags as long as they are not chocolate, cheese or leaking. She said no problem at all.

This is what we're going to do, since we'll be relying on WDW transportation and won't have easy access to a grocery store.(although I am going to find a way to buy water!!) And when we pack to go home we'll have extra room, from the snack suitcase, for souveiners! YAY! LOL

We are planning on brining some food from home and taking advantage of the grocery stop to buy perishables. However, instead of bringing our own cooler, I thought we could buy a cheap styrofoam cooler at the grocery stop then just discarding it when we leave. Would cut down on our packed items. Has anyone found such coolers available at the grocery stops? Also, where do they typically take you? A regular grocery store, like Albertson's, or a high-priced convenience store?

They take you to a regular grocery store. Depending on the car service you choose it will probably be either kash N Karry or Publix. They all sell the coolers in the store for a couple of dollars.

Enjoy!

The kinds of things that they recommend not packing in checked luggage are things like jars of peanut butter or big chunks of cheese. They are dense and the scanners can't see through them so they will have to open your bags to see what's behind them and possibly what's *inside them. Unless you want to take the chance of your luggage being opened and someone digging around in your peanut butter I'd suggest buying that once you get there. Snack foods are fine to pack as either carry on or in checked luggage.

we just went to www.netgrocer.com and had a package shipped to us. It costs 8.95 for ours and was there when we arrived. Was great and we did not need to take time out for a store run with our towncar driver.

I never realized this. When we drive to WDW I know we always have bananas and apples in the minivan. We eat them for snacks on the way down and always have some for the room. Now I have to worry about the fruit police! LOL!
