Bridging/Upgrading ticket to DVC AP

A little help please, new to the Dis. I have read the threads pertaining to upgrading a ticket to an AP. Do I assume correctly that I could purchase a discounted 7 day ticket, use it 1 day and proceed to guest relations to upgrade to a DVC discounted ($100) AP? In other words does bridging a ticket work with the DVC AP $100 discount?

Yes, that will work. The DVC AP is just another ticket to them.

Just a few 'restrictions':
the ticket upgrade must be within 14 days of the first use, and you will NOT get any refunds if your original ticket is more than the DVC AP.

Don't forget your Member's Card and photo ID.

It will work with any ticket as long as the upgrade is done within 14 days of first use OR by the end of the day on the last day you use your ticket, whichever comes first.

It will work on any type of ticket provided you're within the first 14 days of use and there are still days left when you upgrade (for example, you can't use all seven days on a seven-day ticket and then come back on the eighth day to upgrade.)

And like PP said, buy the ticket with the biggest discount that costs less than th AP you will buy, there are no refunds.

*This is only true for non-KTTW card tickets or non-package tickets (not sure which) so it is true for the OP and for most DVC owner's questions to this question, when you are buying tickets from a 3rd party reseller. If you are a regular resort guest on a package with tickets, you get the full 14 day upgrade window whether all the entries are used up or not.

And you cannot upgrade complimentary or steeply discounted tickets - like youth group, YES, sporting event special tickets. Only regular MYW tickets.

I like to also give people a heads up that not all CM's know about this. I bridged 2 tickets at the MK in the town hall guest services. (undercover tourist hopper to DVC AP) The CM gave me a really hard time and kept trying to charge me more money. I politely stood my ground and eventually after going in back he said "just this once". Then he did it wrong and handed me a $20 gift card which should not have happened. I told him that but he said it was the only way he could do it.

Later that week I bridged two more when my DH & DS arrived. This time I went to the guest services window outside of MK. I got a woman in training and the person training her didn't bat an eye at the request.

So FYI I would go to MK Guest Services outside of the park. I think they see a lot more ticket stuff then they do inside the park.

Regarding the comments about not getting a refund, I did have a $6 credit left over from my bridge that the CM applied to my TIW puchase. So though I didn't get a refund, I did get some extra funding that I wasn't expecting.

This was with a CM at MK GS otuside the gate.

OK, a follow on question two months later. Purchased and received UT tickets 6 day hopper, best discount, priced less than DVC AP price, check. Room and meal reservations for trip in July, check. (Does it get hot in Orlando in July? CHECK!! ) Question: If Disney raises prices on tickets prior to my July trip, are there any clever/legal ways to bridge my tickets from UT into DVC AP's without physically being there? I think I know the answer to this one. Or is it wiser to maybe purchase DVC AP's through the mail and keep the original UT tix for use at a later date. I would guess this all depends on how much they raise ticket prices. The percentage of increase on the Disneyland AP's last week has raised an eyebrow or two.

No, to bridge a ticket, you have to use it. No one knows when Disney will raise the WDW ticket prices. It used to be in August, but last year they did it in June. So there's still the chance it won't happen until after your July trip.

Joe - you won't be incurring the increased price if you upgrade your tickets after the price increase. Once you use the tickets once, the CURRENT (at that time) gate price becomes the value of those tickets. You will still only pay the difference between that day's gate price and the current price of the DVC AP. Assuming they go up in the same ratio, it shouldn't cost you anymore than if they didn't have a price increase.

There is no reason to try and buy DVC APs in advance through the mail (you can only buy a voucher anyway, but it works the same - you wouldn't pay for the increase) and keep your UT tix for later.

Just wanted to add that we have encountered the least trained ticket CM's at Animal Kingdom park. I would not recommend trying to bridge your ticket to an AP there.

Trying to get my mind clear on this. You need to use your UT ticket in order to get the best upgrade price, so do you enter the park and then do the upgrade when you leave, since you are advising the guest relations outside the MK?

You have to use the ticket at least once before upgrading. It doesn't matter when you upgrade after you walk through the gate - 2 minutes later, end of that day, next day (per the limitations talked about above about using ALL of the days or 14 days later).

Once you use the ticket, Disney considers its value whatever the gate price of a current ticket is, regardless of what you paid for it or what UT paid Disney for it.

This is how you "preserve" the discount when upgrading a ticket. If you do not use it, they will only value it at the price UT paid.

Ok i have a similar question.
I bought a regular annual pass atfull prce in Dec 11. So its good untill Dec 12.
I became a dvc member inJan of this year. Can I upgrade my pass to the premium AP (where I can get into the water parks) and now get the $100 discount?

You are the wind beneath my wings I didn't realize that Disney would value the 6 day ticket at the post price hike amount. I had it in my head they would value it at the pre price hike face value. I guess the only issue is if the AP price increase (if any ..... yeah right) is substantially higher than the MYW multi day tickets.
