Has anyone seen this movie and is it ok for a 4 year old would they like it or not.

i haven't seen the movie but from the previews it might be a bit much for a four year old. I think it is great that you are trying to get an idea about the movie first before you decide. If the movie stays true to the book's plot, you may not want to take a child that age to see it. I do not plan on taking my own four year old to see it. I think we will pass on this one for her.

I have not seen the movie either, but I am not taking my ten year old to see it. He is fairly sensitive and I think he would be very upset by it, assuming that it follows the plot of the book. He loves Pirates 1 and 2, so I'm not worried about any violence or anything like that - I just think that the plot is too emotionally intense for him.

If you haven't already, it might help you to decide if you read the book or at least a good summary of it.

We took our 7yr old and her 2 friends last night. I think it is a good movie, and the actors did a good job. I would have taken our 4 1/2 yr old DS, but he had gotten in trouble. I am glad we didn't take him b/c it wasn't the kiddie movie I thought it was going to be. I would say more of a 8yr+ movie. SPOILER...the little girl dies and it deals with her passing, the father of the boy yells quite a bit and says at least one bad word(D@&n if you were wondering) There are a few bullies, etc. Just more of a mature plot, and there wasn't as much imaginary land as I thought there would be based on the ads. We do think it is a movie to see, but we won't be taking our 4 yr old.

Thank you for the spoiler! I have been rereading the book, I knew someone died, but thought it was the boy. My kids love that fantasy stuff, but I would not take now knowing the boy dies, that might be too much. Thank you for posting, I have been waiting to hear from someone!

I work for a movie theatre, and on the rating it says "Warning may frighten young children"

Also keep in mind, that although not widely publicized, there is a refund window, generally around 30 minutes. You can double check when you buy your tickets, and if your child is really frightened you can always walk out and ask for a refund, unless you've watched the entire show.

I would not take small children to this movie. My little brother is very scared of things that aren't supposed to be alive (trees) coming alive and that is the majority of the movie. I think that it depends on the kid and his/her interests.

My 5 year old DGS said he wanted to see it, so I took him. He wasn't scared at all. I felt like the monsters weren't really scary. I think older children will realize that the children are imagining them. There wasn't scary music or anything jumping out. It was an excellent movie. There's lots of good things to discuss after it's over.

Took five kids last night ages 6-10. Great movie! I agree with other poster great young actors. The movie would be over a four year olds head. Even one of the 6 year olds in the group didn't quite grasp the point. Good one to leave the little ones at home and have a date night.

I am not really sure if the fantasy stuff is the majority of the movie. I think that might just be the previews emphasizing the trees and stuff.

I'm not planning to take my 6 year old to see it. I also am not going to let him read the book for a while. It's pretty serious stuff, even if it's a great book. He is being read the Harry Potter series, but that was an argument DH & I had, and guess who lost? So far it's been ok, I think because the HP kids are older and it's clearly fantasy.

I haven't seen the movie but I have read the book. It's definitely not appropriate for anyone under 8 and even that is pushing it. I may take DS11 and DS8 but DS4 will be staying home with Daddy. All the reviews I've read recommend either 8 or 10 and above.

I took my 10yr old son to see it. Really good movie, but definately not for a younger child. My girls would not have understood most of the storyline.

I took my 5 and 6 yo dd's today. I did spoil the ending for them before we went and told them what was going to happen to Leslie so they were prepared. It was sad but they don't show anything about her death, they just talk about it, so it wasn't bad. They both really liked the movie. I think they understood a lot of the issues in the movie (bullies, being different).

It was an excellent movie!

I took DS12, DN10, DN8 and two friends, 10 and 8. They were all disappointed that most of the movie is in the "real" world and not in Terabithia. The previews made it look kind of like Narnia, but it was maybe 10-15% fantasy and the rest was HARD reality, with a lot of bullying, bad relationship with father, and of course, the whole death thing. They were also disappointed when the boy took his sister to Terabithia at the end, that the girl was not there(after all it was fantasy)
