Vent ahead -

I am in my cousin's wedding next month. I am very honored to have been chosen to be in her wedding party. I like her very much. Apparently the feeling is not mutual or she would not have insisted on dressing five adult women in pastel purple with ivory trim :scared1: (I digress.) Originally her only request was that we all wear no pantyhose because she was insisting on open-toed shoes. OKAY - really - everyone should choose their own style shoe because not everyone is comfortable in the same thing. Now, she wants everyone in an open-toed dyed to match peau-de-soie shoe. I have searched high and low - they don't sell them anywhere near me anymore. UUGGHH.

I also must have my wrap fashioned (altered $$$) in such a way so as to match all of the other bridesmaids. Ummm - does over my forearm not match? We all must also have a bustle put on our dresses (yes, the pastel dress needs a bustle.) She'd also like me to not look "too busty". HELLO! I am a DD and you are putting me in a stapless gown - if the ladies make an appearance it's your own fault!!!

I am attending a second shower for her in a few weeks. It, like the first shower, is in NY where the bride lives. I understand completely. I will drive myself and my older dd (the flowergirl) to NY - again. Then the wedding is in 6 weeks - I will drive to NY - again. On top of everything else I am currently starving myself a la Slim Fast to be sure I look my best in my pastel purple gown. JUST SHOOT ME! Perhaps my current starvation is leading me to be a little cranky?

By the time this is over I will have spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500. 1500 - that's more than the amount of calories I'm allowing myself to consume in preparation for this blessed event. :sad2:

Vent over- thanks for reading.

:rotfl: Oh my...at least you can wear it again...

Did she open her gifts in the prescribed manner at the last shower?

I'm so sorry for your misfortune.

Now I must turn away so you don't see me laughing.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. My wife's a harpist and has seen her share of brdes from....well, I'm sure you can get it.

Where are those smilies that say

"This Thread is Useless Without Pictures"

Good Luck!

Darnit Woman, we need pictures!!!!!

Wow! I had a bridesmaid freak out because I asked them not to buy a necklace, since that was going to be my gift to them. I wonder what she would think about your cousin.

BTW ~ Was your tag always that color, or did the Tag Fairyy change it because of this thread?

No, it was BETTER. Girls # 1&2 actually unwrapped most of her gifts so all she had to do was slide the paper off (no bows, ribbons, or decor left) and thank the appropriate person (whose name had been given to her by girl #1.)

And, when it comes to pictures of this little endeavor, well, let's just say I'm more likely to post my seafoam green prom dress picture than this monstrosity!!!

Really, it's just the Slim Fast talking. I am actually lookinf forward to this wedding. I am. Really. No, really. I am looking forward to it. Really.

Halloween is in October:lmao: ..I do feel your pain though...I am glad I chose their dresses, and allowed everything else up to them.Good Luck with that

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY TAG MATCHES MY DRESS!!!!!! It must have been some kind of omen! :lmao:

Oh, this is one of the mixed blessings about being over 40 -- no one will ask me to be a bride's maid ever again! :rotfl2:

My favorite (ha!) bridesmaid dress was hot pink (think fushia) on the bottom, ivory on the top, and a big wide bow and ruffles of ivory down the back of the pink skirt. It was truly a sight to behold.

Oh, I feel your pain!!! My brother is getting married next Spring and he asked my husband and I to be in the wedding. He's younger than I am but his fiancee is even younger so there is almost a 10 year age gap between her and I. Her idea of appropriate and my idea are worlds apart. I caught wind of the fact that she was leaning toward strapless gowns for us. I wore strapless once in my best friend's wedding, hated it, was uncomfortable all night and absolutely refuse to wear it again. I decided to address the issue before we went dress shopping so as to avoid a scene at the bridal shop. I called my brother, explained my situation and he completely agreed. I will be almost 32 yrs old by the time they get married and a mom and I really don't want to be hanging out all over the place. The other issue is the bride wants to order dresses now and I'm 31 weeks pregnant.....that's going to work out well for me....lol. I thought about declining when they asked but in the end, I really don't want to hurt my brother. Hopefully, this is the last of my bridesmaid days!!!

Why do Brides lose all sanity when picking out bridesmaid attire?

The only thing my bridesmaids complained about was the shoes. They said they were uncomfortable. Well, it was my sisters that complained. I told them it was payback for the ghastly ugly, lacy dresses they made me wear. :lmao:

No sympathy. I had to wear a forest green cotton dress with HUGE and I mean HUGE cabbage roses on it in pink and peach. The skirt was tiered/ruffled - knee lenth in the front and tea length in the back. It was fitted with a dropped skirt so the skirt did not flare from my waist - it flared from my hips so the bodice was skin right from top to hip area it also had - OF COURSE a belted in the middle of the waist that ended in a HUGE bow right on my already huge rump.

Seriously - change the fabric to the above - lower the first tier to the hip area - add a belt/rump bow and take off all but the purple ruffle on those sleeves and this is just about what I was wearing.

Quit your complaining and consider yourself lucky:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I don't think 32 is too old for strapless! I'm going to be 33 this year and I really don't feel that old!

At least you don't have a BUTT BOW on top of the bustle...or do you?

I feel your bridesmaid pain. My worst bridesmaid dress was a giant peach taffeta and lace "southern belle" dress with a matching hat AND parasol! There were five of us and we were each in a different pastel. We looked like drunk easter eggs because of the way the hoops swayed!

I was much kinder to my bridesmaids. I designed their dresses myself. I made them two pieces and they have both worn the skirt and top mixed with other attire. I only asked for black shoes. They chose what type. After all, I like these women and appreciate that they care enough for me to be in my wedding.

I just don't get it. :confused3

Oh, dear.

I really, really TRIED to NOT be one of those brides. I picked my favorite color, bought yards of fabric, and had my back-up singers make or have made whatever type of dress suited them. Wrap, or no, heels or no...and I thought they looked great.

But it was an eggplant color. Was this bad?

I had to look up peau-de-soie shoe because I had no idea that the word slingback had gone out of style.

I'm thinking we need a picture because the one I'm painting in my head needs to be shared. :artist:
