A Florida bride and her caterer were arrested for putting marijuana in the food at the reception. Several guests fell ill and paramedics were called.

The bride seemed to think she was doing her guests a favor. It’s not clear if the groom was aware ahead of time.

It’s fine to partake but you DON’’T serve others laced food without their knowledge and consent.

Any thoughts?

As a Floridian, I can honestly say, only in Florida . . .

Illegal drugs have no place at a wedding, and no drugs, illegal or otherwise, should be given to others without consent unless there is an urgent emergency medical need. Full stop.

If the bride wanted to get high on illegal drugs at her wedding, that was her prerogative. She would have to pay the consequences if caught. What they did was criminal and I don’t think the charges are severe enough considering the risk they took. They had no way of controlling the quantity each guest would consume or what their reaction would be.

If this had taken place in an area where pot is legal, then I feel it would have been OK to have edibles available, so long as they were labeled so guests could make informed decisions, and they were out of reach of minors. But even where pot is legal, what they did was reprehensible.

I don't think it's even a good idea to have something with mixed company meaning in this case ones who would and wouldn't partake. It can easily be a mistake on a guest OR an employee serving, etc to get from the "wrong" batch and goodness what about kids just getting a treat not realizing what it has in it. It's just asking for issues.

And the gravity of this situation is huge. It's not the particular substance that is the issue, it's that it was given to people unknowingly, not all that different from someone intentionally giving someone something they are allergic to. The consequences could be dire and not something that can be anticipated the interactions the substances could have on people. The legality of the substance has zero bearing on the subject. There was no knowledge provided to people and there were persons at the party (kids IIRC) who would not have been legal to ingest.

I read this story a few days back and those WTH, hopefully they actually get charged and are held responsible. IMO they should pay for the medical fees for those who sought medical care.

I have absolutely no problem with marijuana but this was just dumb. Once I stopped by my parents on my way to work (as a nurse practitioner mind you, treating patients) and I grabbed some Tylenol because I had a headache and about an hour later I thought I was having a stroke or something lol because I felt so out of it snd could barely stay awake. Turns out my dad put Tylenol pms in an empty Tylenol bottle so I had taken the pm ones without knowing it and it was pretty scary til I figured that out snd I imagine these people felt the same way

LOL Florida

I wonder if there is any truth to the rumor that the groom frantically enrolled in cooking school.

I once accidentally put eye dilating drops into my eyes instead of regular eye drops, I thought I was going blind.

There is no part of what happened that translates into a good idea.
I tried to find the silver lining. The napkins were modestly priced, ok, that was a good decision. But they lose more points for hiring The Spin Doctors as the band, so….

I would be BS if that happened to us at a wedding (or anywhere). I didn’t read the article in the OP, but another article I read said people were vomiting and their hearts were racing, so they had to be taken to the ER. What fools they were to do that to people. I’m sure there will be lawsuits.

I love my edibles (I live in a state where it's legal for recreational use), and they have mostly replaced alcohol in my life. This is a truly terrible thing to do. Like, even if you know everyone in the group is an adult who enjoys cannabis, it's wrong to drug people without their knowledge and consent. To do it to an entire wedding reception? When you have no idea how some people will react? I know someone who get temporary paralysis from even a small amount of THC. Who knows how it might interact with someone's medication, or what it might do if they have PTSD or something. Wrong wrong wrong!

I would never even serve someone food with cannabis if I couldn't to specify a dosage. Even regular users can have different tolerances, so what might be a fun time for one person might mean paranoia for someone else. Ugh, this whole thing makes me sick.
